Eight flat races from Navan on Wednesday afternoon, October 4th. Action takes place between 13.55 – 15.25.
There are plenty of runners, and the great Billy Lee is among the jocks competing.
15.25 – Collective Power @ 5/1
Any excuse almost, to tip up a horse ridden by the majestic Billy Lee! He really is the real deal for me, and one of those names I look for every day to check what they’re riding. You’ll all have your own such lists, and favourites.
I’d happily add Rossa Ryan and James Doyle; and while across the water in Ireland Dylan Browne McMonagle and the terrific Colin Keane. They don’t all win of course but some of the bookings look very encouraging, and the guys are top drawer in my view.
Anyway – to the race in hand. Collective Power (the clue’s in the second part of that title) is trained by Eddie Lynam and races in the colours of the Power family. Remember Nunthorpe scorer Sole Power? This one isn’t in that class but sluiced up under Lee last time at Cork, and the handicapper has most certainly had his/her say with an 8lb hike.
Collective Power knows where the jam-stick is, and hopefully Billy can work the oracle over this quirky 5.5f trip.
17.25 – Special Protector each-way @ 6/1
We’re paying 5 places each-way here so that’s the way I’m going to play it. The selection is Special Protector, a 5-yr-old mare knocking loudly on the door in her last 3 recent outings.
Just about 4 weeks since a running-on placed effort at Clonmel, claimer-ridden, the experienced Ronan Whelan now takes over. He’s partnered her once before.
She tried hurdling with no success, but can hopefully pick up a little prize like this. Lovely racing weight in the context of this (8st 13lb), and trainer Timothy Doyle has had a couple of recent winners.
