NAP of the Day: The Doc will see you now…

  • By Admin

The weather has put paid to three meetings on Monday, but as many remain – one being a Jumps card at Huntingdon, where I’m hoping a decent bumper performer can make a winning start over hurdles.

NAP of the Day

  • 13:50 Huntingdon – Doc McCoy @ 13/8

If Doc McCoy is the “real smart individual” trainer Jamie Snowden says he is, he should have no problem winning this maiden hurdle over 2m3½f.

Frankly, it looks a modest affair. Lean On Me is the only runner in the field with form over flights, but it’s dire form at that. 33/1 for a reason, and all that.

Then you’ve got the unraced Blue Dauphin for an out-of-form yard, plus two once-raced bumper horses in Onewaywest and Globe Player whose form simply doesn’t compare to the selection’s.

J’Habite En France is an uninspiring PTP recruit in my book, which leaves just Billy Boi Blue for David Killahena & Graeme McPherson.

He’s a credible opponent. He’s nicely-bred and has showed a fair amount of ability in four bumpers over the last two seasons, but I don’t think he has nearly as much scope as Doc McCoy.

The five-year-old son of Getaway, out of an Oscar mare, was an emphatic PTP winner in February last year and then placed in three bumpers, which each have substance to them, last season.

He’s bred to be much better over obstacles and over a longer trip than the minimum, which he gets here, and as I’ve already alluded to has been found a lovely starting point.

The form of Snowden’s yard is a slight concern, but generally their fancied runners have gone well enough so it’s not put me off suggesting Doc McCoy here.
