Nap of the Day: Ryan’s express can score
Brrrr …. not a vast choice available on Tuesday, but hopefully still a little more than Monday, where only Wolverhampton’s all-weather card survived.
It’s to Dunstall Park, Wolverhampton that I’m travelling for Tuesday’s Nap of the Day – oh, and I should just mention. It’s Alan here, standing in for Owen. Think Victoria Derbyshire, holding the fort for Laura Kuenssberg on a Sunday morning. Or something like that.
Owen’s taking his Cheltenham ante-post vouchers for a couple of days away in the Cairngorms – got to keep ’em sweet.
Here we go then – and it’s to a jockey we both admire that I’m more than happy to turn to …
Nap Of The Day, Tuesday
- 19.00 Wolverhampton – Talis Evolvere @ 9/4
19.00 Wolverhampton – Talis Evolvere @ 9/4
The jockey I referred to above is one Rossa Ryan. You might recall him aboard Shaquille for that colt’s remarkable July Cup Group 1 triumph at Newmarket. He’s basically in a very short space of time made a considerable name for himself, and it’s worth remembering that the Irish pilot is just 22 years of age.
He operates at around an 18% strike-rate, but that increases to 22% for 3-yr-olds on the all-weather – exactly the conundrum we have before us for Tuesday.
The selection Talis Evolvere is a gelded son of Irish 2000 Guineas winner Awtaad, by a Henrythenavigator mare. Breeding screams a mile, basically, and he gets 8.5 furlongs today after a respectable placed effort at 7f 13 days ago.
He broke his maiden at Pontefract in Sept, over a mile, absolutely hosing up by over 4l. Ponty is a very stiff track and you don’t prevail there without stamina to burn. Winning so readily in Yorkshire at the trip suggests perhaps further will be well within his compass in time, but Tuesday’s 8.5 should be absolutely spot-on.
The prolific Richard Hannon trains, and over 100 winners have been sent out from his Wiltshire base this calendar year. On just his sixth career start I’m full of hope that Rossa can guide ‘Talis’ around the Tapeta track and be produced at the business end in a timely manner; to confirm the progressive-looking promise of recent outings.
