Nap of the Day: North Yorkshire looks set for explosive Friday action

Our nap of the day was thwarted by a diminishing neck last night at Windsor, as even the mighty Oisin Murphy just couldn’t quite reel in the leader in time. A great run, and it was 3.5l back to the third, which is a yawning chasm.

For Friday’s nap, August 16, I’m heading to Thirsk and the 18:30. Fingers crossed that we resume winning ways. Action starts at 16:58.

Today’s Horse Races

18:30 Thirsk – Jez Bomb @ 13/8

This three-year-old Hunter’s Light gelding ran just five days ago, at Ripon. In a similar grade but over 2f less he had to fatefully wait for a run, and finished with purpose without quite getting there (beaten 1.5l).

Connections now not only visit the well once more when it’s evident the horse is thriving, but step up in trip to a mile-and-a-half, which looks a good move. His sire got at least 10.5f well and the manner of the Ripon run suggested it was well within range.

The horse is very experienced for one so relatively young. Very consistent and progressive too, admittedly at this modest level.

His mark of 57 remains unchanged from last time, and Oisin Orr again takes the mount – Richard Fahey’s man. Sam England trains Jez Bomb in West Yorkshire, and I get the feeling that connections thought he could well have won at Ripon with better luck, and therefore is on a winning mark right now.

The stable had a winner on the flat the other day at Haydock, Trilby, and I’m more than hopeful that this can be another. Oisin Orr has a good book of rides overall and could be in for a cracking evening.
