NAP of the Day: Majed to get off the mark at Lingfield

Thanks to my colleague Alan’s winner on Tuesday, we’ve landed a NAP hat-trick over the last three days.

Taken to make it a four-timer is a Gosden-trained juvenile in the second race at Lingfield on Wednesday.

It’s hard to be certain when dealing with lightly-raced juveniles, but this novice contest over a mile looks to be between Accumulate and Majed.

The former has the most experience of the trio and sets the standard having followed up a promising debut at Ascot in September with a good win in a warm race at Newmarket a few weeks later.

However, he carries a 7lb penalty for that which could prove difficult against a horse with Majed‘s credentials.

John & Thady Gosden’s two-year-old made a highly-promising start when second to Ambiente Friendly – who then placed in a Group 3 behind subsequent G1 Futurity Trophy hero Ancient Wisdom – at Leicester in late September, shaping like he’d come on for the experience.

He should also relish the step up to a mile. Not only did his debut performance suggest so, but he’s bred for it as a son of Magna Grecia, out of a Fastnet Rock mare whose progeny seem to be most effective over even further.

The Gosdens often do well at this time of year, and it’s notable their string have been going particularly well over the last week and a bit. That only adds to my confidence.

A market check is advised where the two newbies, especially the selection’s stablemate Roi De France, are concerned, but ultimately I’m hopeful that the 7lb penalty will prove the decisive factor here and Majed will break his duck at the second attempt.
