Nap of the Day: Guess who? Billy The Kid time …

Monday’s Nap of the Day comes from Wolverhampton’s NINE-race Tapeta card. Action takes place on Nov 6th between 16.25 and 20.30.

Regular readers will not be remotely surprised when the identity of the jockey I’m entrusting the nap to is revealed. So, without further ado …

Nap of the Day, Monday

17.30 Wolverhampton – Rogue Soldier @ 11/4

This is a restricted maiden at a trip just short of ten furlongs. All the field are 3-yr-olds, and my selection Rogue Soldier comes here after contesting a Class 5 handicap over 7f at Kempton in August.

Tom Clover’s gelded son of No Nay Never finished well to be second, narrowly denied, and doing his best work late in the piece. After what I hope has been a freshen-up break Billy Loughnane, our Champion Apprentice, has been booked to hopefully finesse this one home over this slightly longer trip.

Expect Billy to stalk the field and produce him late – and if you want a jockey to do a fabulous job in such circumstances then for my money you can’t do better than select young Mr Loughnane.

The Breeders’ Cup at weekend showcased the brilliant talents in particular of Dettori, Moore, and Marquand – but there’s stacks of depth in the riding ranks for me, and Billy is in the vanguard of the new wave hunting up those established names.

A close-run-thing in a Class 5 handicap translates to average maiden-winning form in my book, and that’s exactly what I’m hoping to see on Monday late-afternoon.

Fingers crossed for another Nap of the Day winner!
