NAP of the Day: Fahey juvenile looks a great bet at Newcastle

NAP of the Day: Fahey juvenile looks a great bet at Newcastle

  • By Admin

Friday’s NAP is a once-raced juvenile for Richard Fahey who’s taken to build on a highly-promising debut when he lines up at Newcastle.

NAP of the Day

  • 17:05 Newcastle – Apocalyx @ 13/8

First thing’s first, kudos to whoever named this two-year-old son of Calyx.

Richard Fahey’s APOCALYX is not only brilliantly-named, but he also looks to possess plenty of ability based on a promising debut at Thirsk last month.

He was second to a horse called Almarada Prince, who has since won a decent novice at Hamilton, that day and finished ahead of a well-backed runner for Simon & Ed Crisford, who had the rest of the field over 3L behind. If you haven’t got the gist, I think that’s a good piece of form.

I loved the way he finished out his race there, staying on strongly after drifting halfway across the track. He should on for that plenty, and appreciate this slightly more testing track.

Of his 10 rivals for this 6f novice, Trefor and Appellant look the obvious dangers.

The former left a poor debut well behind when winning at Windsor last time out, but the penalty he’s received for doing so is off-putting. Meanwhile, the latter comes here off the back of a no-show at Ascot 41 days ago, and even so the form of his introductory effort isn’t all that inspiring. I wouldn’t write off Andrew Balding’s Pianoforte either.

All in all, I suspect the selection has been found a good opportunity to get off the mark. Fingers crossed he can make it back-to-back 13/8 winners for the column after Victory Shout’s facile success at Carlisle on Thursday (one of the easiest winners you’ll see all year).
