We’re going north of the border for the NAP of the Day, with a beautifully-bred juvenile taken to get off the mark at the second attempt.
NAP of the Day
- 14:12 Ayr – Golden Strike @ 5/4
After a highly-promising debut at Pontefract last month, I’m selecting Richard Fahey’s Golden Strike as Tuesday’s NAP.
The two-year-old was green as grass the last day. Having broke slowly, he immediately took a fierce pull, swerving sharply across the track. As a result, he was in rear throughout, with plenty of work to do at the business end of the race.
Despite that, he made stylish late headway to ultimately finish second, just over a length behind the winner Bondy. Given how much went wrong, the son of Calyx must possess a fair amount of ability.
The form is yet to be properly tested, but Bondy previously ran well in a decent novice at York and the selection was ahead of prior winner and 3/1 favourite Power Of Zeus, so it’s fair to say the early signs are certainly promising.
Tuesday’s assignment – a maiden over 6f – looks significantly easier.
Frankly, there’s little to be worried about from his four rivals with experience. Glory Hyde and Etretat aren’t completely without a chance, but their form is modest at best and they don’t look to have all that much scope.
I’m wary of all three newcomers, who are as well-bred as they are connected, but if Golden Strike improves even half as much as I expect, it’s a high standard they’d have to meet on debut.
