Nap of the Day: Business as usual for the Rosewell House maestro?
What a racing week. Goodwood and Galway have Festivals – iconic annual Festivals at that. In a companion Lucky 15 piece I’ve looked at some of the standout action on the Sussex Downs, so let’s motor across the Irish Sea for Tuesday’s Nap Of The Day.
July 30 – the action starts at 16:50 – and the nap runs at 18:40.

Trainer Dermot Weld, master of Rosewell House, has proved to be the answer to many a Galway puzzle over the years. I’ve a feeling he might just have the key to this lively-looking three-year-old maiden, too.
Yaxchilan has seen the racetrack just once so far – an interesting fourth in a maiden at Navan 17 days ago. The Racing Post race-reader’s comment is interesting; ‘Towards rear, ran green under 2f out, nudged out and ran on final furlong, eyecatcher (op 18/1).’
Sounds like it was a much-needed piece of practical education to put the Mehmas gelding in a position to be competitive on Tuesday afternoon, and given connections (the Weld factor), it will be no surprise whatsoever if this one has admirers outside of this piece.
Joseph O’Brien fields No Knee Never, but he’s had a few chances and doesn’t appear to be improving. All that of course could change in a moment, but Yaxchilan and Chris Hayes appear to have very bright prospects given any normal, anticipated improvement from Navan.
Rates nap material for me, 7f should be fine, and I’m happy to put it up to get us on the front foot for the week. Time for the King of Ballybrit to do what he does, and has been doing for many years – train winners at the Galway Festival.
