Today, Pacific organizations Paper Rex and Global Esports announced the mutual transfer of Valorant players Cahya “Monyet” Nugraha and Benedict “Benkai” Tan.
As revealed today, Monyet will complete the Paper Rex Valorant lineup for next year’s roster with the release of Wang Jing Jie. Meanwhile, Paper Rex has transferred former in-game leader Benkai to Global Esports as part of the organization’s rebuild efforts for next year’s roster.
Both teams are set to compete in the Valorant Champions Tour Pacific league, which will feature two splits next year and 11 teams from the Pacific region. Global Esports and Paper Rex were both selected by Riot last year to be a part of the partnership system.
The transfer that benefits both parties
While Paper Rex will likely be the team that benefits the most from the transfer, since Monyet has proved to be one of the best players in the Pacific region, Global Esports has acquired an in-game leader that has international experience and led Paper Rex to significant results during his tenure.
Benkai played for Paper Rex until around April this year when he was replaced by up-and-coming duelist Ilya “something” Petrov. Paper Rex went on to win the Pacific regular season following a victory against DRX in the grand final.
Paper Rex continued its success internationally with a third-place finish at VCT Masters Tokyo and a second-place finish at Valorant Champions to conclude the season, with Benkai’s replacement something being integral to the latter’s run.
But Global Esports struggled throughout the regular season, with an eighth-place finish. Monyet was considered the best player on the team and consistently put up impressive numbers. He finished the regular season with a 1.13 rating, making him the fifth-highest-rated player in the league, according to data collected by VLR.gg.
The Pacific League is set to begin at the start of next year.
