Monday Racing Tips: Written Broadcast to end win wait

 | December 04 |

Only a single meeting on Monday has survived the cold snap, with an evening card taking place on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton after both Ayr and Plumpton failed to survive inspections.

We’ve picked out a trio of fancies to help kick-start a new week, including Mark Loughnane’s Bright, who impressed on his debut for the stable.

17:00 Wolverhampton – Written Broadcast @ 3/1

It has now been over 18 months since WRITTEN BROADCAST last won a race, but Monday’s opener at Wolves looks like the perfect opportunity to end that wait.

Trainer and owner Ollie Pears has kept the six-year-old busy this autumn after four runs, and he looked to have found the answer last month when Written Broadcast finished second at Wolverhampton.

Pears’ charge had finished eighth, ninth and seventh so far this season at Newcastle, but a run at the Midlands track brought the best out of him. Monday’s race will be over the same C&D, and he seems to enjoy Wolves, having won at the track on two previous occasions.

The opposition does not look too formidable in the opener at 17:00, and last month’s run suggests there is more to come from the experienced campaigner.

19:30 Wolverhampton – Bright @ 9/1

Mark Loughnane’s BRIGHT showed a pleasing attitude when making a winning stable bow at this course in October and the gelded son of Starspangledbanner can build on that now up in trip.

Thrice-raced and having shown promise earlier in the year for Roger Charlton – including at this 6f trip – he went off second-fav in that stable now in a novice contest here.

As they swung off the final bend, he settled down for a sustained duel with the runner-up, Rooska, and won that by virtue of a pleasing attitude.

He was strong at the line in that race and an opening handicap mark of 73 is within his reach. His case is aided by Callum Hutchinson taking off 3lb in the plate and the return to this 6f trip doesn’t look to be a cause for worry.

20:30 Wolverhampton – Prince Ali @ 4/1

The consistent PRINCE ALI may be up to landing this competitive Wolverhampton nightcap for trainer Deborah Faulkner.

The five-year-old gelding is a three-time winner on the all-weather with six more placings from 17 starts on synthetic surfaces.

He won over C&D in September and has run well in all four subsequent starts here over this trip and 1m1½f.

Last time, he made good late strides from the rear but was held off by the determined winner Dutch Kingdom, just a neck between them at the winning post.

The winner had a much better tactical position in that contest and, from just 1lb higher, Prince Ali is taken to grab his second career win at Dunstall Park.
