There are five race meetings taking place across Britain and Ireland on Monday, with a mix of jumps and Flat action and Newton Abbot kicks things off with their National Hunt card.
They are joined by the afternoon Flat card at Ayr before evening fare from Killarney, Windsor and Wolverhampton (AW).
Rider Bradley Harris is going through a good little spell and is fancied to bag another winner for his father at Newton Abbot this afternoon.
Selections
- Newton Abbot 3.25 – Pyramid Place @ 9/4
- Windsor 6.40 – Indispensable @ 11/4
- Ayr 5.30 – Hills Of Gold @ 9/2
Tip 1
The Fiddy Thornes Birthday Handicap Hurdle at Newton Abbot may be run to suit hold-up performer PYRAMID PLACE (9/4) for Milton and Bradley Harris.
The Authorized gelding has five wins and five placed efforts from his 21 starts over hurdles, the latest of those successes coming at Cartmel in late May over this sort of trip.
That was his first time running beyond a bare 2m5f and he was strong through the line, needing every yard to get on top.
With confirmed frontrunners San Giovanni and Thirtyfourstitches in the mix here, a contested lead could result in this setting up well for something to come through and pick up the pieces.
Given he is unexposed at this sort of trip, and with claiming rider Bradley Harris boasting excellent recent results, they are fancied to land this Newton Abbot event.
Tip 2
The Spinnaker Support Nursery at Windsor is a Betfred Extra Place Race (three places) and it looks a good set up for William Haggas’ filly INDISPENSABLE (11/4) on her nursery bow.
The daughter of Ten Sovereigns was full of promise in defeats at Newmarket and Goodwood over 5f/6f before getting on the scoresheet at Ripon (5f, good) last month, where she really travelled with purpose before going on to win.
That race has thrown up a couple of next-time-out winners and Indispensable shouldn’t be harshly judged having contested a Listed race at Newmarket since. She ran well for a long way in that event and the margin of defeat at the line was probably harsh.
She faces last-time-out winner at Wolverhampton Matloob now. The Dark Angel colt won that Tapeta race in promising fashion but he does have to show his improvement can be transferred to grass.
For now, Indispensable looks the way to go in the Cheveley Park colours.
Tip 3
There is plenty of competitive fare at Ayr on Monday afternoon and the Scottish Sun Ladies Night Handicap over a mile-and-a-quarter fits that bill.
Arch Moon won at Wetherby in May for Michael Dods and has claims again but isn’t the most reliable and instead this could be a good opening for his stablemate HILLS OF GOLD (9/2), the mount of bang in-form rider Paul Mulrennan (25 per-cent strike-rate across recent weeks).
He has shown improved form in three starts this season, with figures of 323 at Thirsk, Carlisle and Musselburgh.
Those runs have come on ground ranging from soft-good to firm, and he wasn’t done any favours over 1m1f at Musselburgh 24 days ago when carried left late in the contest.
From the same mark and with Mulrennan getting the leg up for the first time now, the lightly-raced Pivotal gelding looks sure to have his turn before long.
