Ayr Racecourse

Flat racing takes centre stage on Monday with three of the day’s five meetings taking place on the level. We have a relatively busy day on our hands and there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy.

Worcester kicks us off and is swiftly followed by Ayr, before the evening action which comes from Wolverhampton, Roscommon and Ripon. Among our Monday fancies is one for trainer Sir Mark Prescott who looks capable of claiming a second win of the campaign at Ayr.

  • 8.00 Ripon – Vadamiah @ 10/1
  • 3.45 Worcester – Tronador @ 5/1

Today’s Horse Races

4.05 Ayr – Sea King @ 7/4

Sir Mark Prescott runner SEA KING was a little disappointing when finishing 14th of 19 runners in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot and he looked a little out of his depth in that company. With that in mind, the drop in grade could well facilitate a return to winning ways.

The son of Sea The Stars was a winner at Ripon on his first start of the season and he showed a good attitude to come out on top, despite having to wait for some racing room. His current mark is just 2lb higher and is unlikely to prove too taxing.

Newmarket-based Sir Mark Prescott has sent only seven runners up to Ayr in the last five seasons and six of those have finished in the first three.

Those seven runners have yielded two winners, which gives him a very solid strike-rate of 29 per cent over that period. Sea King is his sole representative at the track and connections will surely be seeking compensation.

8.00 Ripon – Vadamiah @ 10/1

Ripon’s Download The At The Races App Handicap should be an interesting race and Bryan Smart’s High Opinion is seeking a hat-trick. He’s likely to prove popular with punters but we’re willing to take him on with VADAMIAH.

Paul Midgley’s mare hasn’t been in the best of form recently but she did run very well over course and distance on her seasonal debut. Finishing third that day, she wasn’t beaten far and currently finds herself on a 2lb lower mark. If producing a similar effort here, she should be in the mix once again.

Her last success came at Catterick in July of 2022 off today’s mark of 72. This is the first time she’s been down to a mark this low since and it could facilitate an overdue return to the winners’ enclosure.

3.45 Worcester – Tronador @ 5/1

TRONADOR achieved the biggest win of his career at the Aintree Festival in 2021 for Denise Foster and he made his debut for the Olly Murphy yard in May. He was a tad disappointing when running on the Flat at Goodwood recently but it’s fairly easy to forgive him for that.

Victorious over hurdles at Plumpton on his first start for this yard, he should be competitive once again as a 4lb rise shouldn’t be too taxing. Lewis Saunders was on board at Plumpton and the conditional rider takes an extra 2lb off here.

His biggest competition could come from stablemate Liverpool Knight who will be ridden by Sean Bowen but Tronador has the best form in the book and it would be no surprise to see him come out on top.
