There are five UK and Irish race meetings on Monday, with action on the Flat at Chepstow, Wolverhampton, Windsor and Ballinrobe joined by the jumps card at Southwell.
Amongst our fancies on the first day of a new week is a filly for Roger Varian that has scope for improvement after opening her account last time.
Selections
- Chepstow 5.25 – Bonkersinabundance @ 4/1
- Windsor 7.30 – Mythical Guest @ 4/1
- Wolverhampton 9.00 – Hooflepuff @ 9/2
Tip 1
The Chepstow finale this afternoon is a 6f contest and it features a trio of last-time-out winners seeking further success.
Amongst them will be Connie’s Rose for trainer Grace Harris and Savalas, a winner over C&D earlier this month, but preference is for BONKERSINABUNDANCE (4/1) for the in-form Varian squad.
The Belardo filly began life in handicaps this season racing over further but she seemingly relished the drop to sprinting at Brighton 17 days ago on fast ground, merely having to be pushed out by Aidan Keeley to get that first win on scoresheet.
She was worth more than three-parts of a length margin crossing the line and the front two had pulled well clear.
The 3YO will race here from 6lb higher but there should be more races to be won with her at this distance in this grade.
She’s on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder and should justify that position.
Tip 2
With both Montevideo and Tribute declared non-runners, it’s fair to suggest that this 1m2f handicap on the Windsor card this evening has cut up.
Both of those were considered possibilities and, in their absence, it’s a mild surprise to find MYTHICAL GUEST (4/1) being the outsider of the remaining quartet.
George Margarson’s son of Make Believe was a good third in a useful 1m2f Newmarket maiden on his second start last month, outrunning a three-figure price in a race that has thrown a couple of subsequent winners.
He tackled a longer trip in one start since and didn’t seem to get home at Yarmouth.
An opening mark of 77 demands improvement now sent handicapping but he has scope for it and this now looks a thin race with those late defections.
Tip 3
HOOFLEPUFF (9/2) is a far better performer on all-weather surfaces than he is on grass, with 10 wins and nine more placed efforts from 41 synthetic surface starts.
All of those wins have come here at Wolverhampton, with three of those over C&D.
Harriet Bethell’s charge was last spotted posting a return-to-form win here in April and now arrives back from a short break rated only 2lb higher.
Given his excellent record at this Black Country venue, and the fact this is a Betfred Super Extra Place Race (four places), Jason Hart’s mount looks a good shout to go close.
