Monday Racing Tips: Alto Alto to hit the right note at Plumpton

It’s a fairly quiet Monday on the racing front with just three meetings taking place across the UK and Ireland. 

The National Hunt action comes from Plumpton and Catterick in the afternoon and Wolverhampton’s all-weather meeting takes us into the evening.

Amongst our Monday fancies is one for Gary Moore who was a good winner last time out and could have plenty of improvement left in the tank over fences.

14.45 Plumpton – Alto Alto @ 9/4

Chris Gordon has plenty of winners at the Sussex track and his runner ALTO ALTO was a winner here over hurdles last time out.

A son of Falco, this seven-year-old has an excellent record here at Plumpton and has won three of his four starts at the track. This 75 per-cent strike-rate certainly gives him an edge and he can take full advantage here.

He was an easy winner of a better race than this over course and distance back in April and his current mark is just 5lb higher. That win in a 0-125 came in similarly soft ground and the conditions should suit again this time around.

Rex Dingle was on board for his latest victory and for his course and distance win over fences. Clearly a successful partnership, Dingle should get a good tune out of him once again.

15.45 Plumpton – Kotmask @ 7/4

Gary Moore is always value for a winner at Plumpton and his runner KOTMASK could be the one to side with here.

He was an easy winner here over 2m1f back in November and ran well when fourth in a good race at Kempton over Christmas. That novice handicap usually provides strong form and is expected to do so once again.

It’s his performance at Sandown last time out which really inspires confidence. Moore’s six-year-old was an impressive eight-length winner over just shy of two miles. He was far from fluent over two of the last three fences and should improve on that front as he becomes a more experienced chaser.

The handicapper has responded with a 7lb rise but Caoilin Quinn has been riding well all season and he takes 3lb off here. Having had just five starts over fences so far, he should still have some secrets from the handicapper.

The trip shouldn’t be a problem here and it would be no surprise if there was more to come from this gelding over the larger obstacles.

19.00 Wolverhampton – Brodie’s Boy @ 11/2

BRODIE’S BOY has had just three starts to date and could hardly be less exposed. Barry Brennan’s colt came within a head of getting off the mark when second at Lingfield over a mile on his penultimate start.

The horses back in third and fourth have since boosted the form and Brodie’s Boy only just failed to catch the well supported 11-10 favourite. That was a fine effort which firmly indicated that he should be winning races sooner rather than later.

He was unfortunate to bump into a smart debutante when second again over an extended mile here last time out and he finished well clear of the third that day.

Making his handicap debut here, 73 looks like a very workable opening mark. The step up in trip is also likely to suit and this looks like a cracking opportunity to deservedly get off the mark.
