Mohammad Amir, a former fast bowler for Pakistan, has been signed by Derbyshire as their first foreign player for the 2024 county season. For Derbyshire the next year, Amir will only be available for the first half of the season.
One of Pakistan’s greatest match-winners was Mohammad Amir. After a disagreement with the team management, the left-arm fast bowler suddenly declared his retirement from international cricket in 2020. Since that time, Amir has not played for Pakistan again, but he has been playing in T20 competitions.
He now competes in the Zim Afro T10 League for the Durban Qalandars squad. Last year in England, the left-arm pacer participated for Gloucestershire in the T20 Blast. Next year, he will relocate to Derbyshire.
In a tweet announcing his signing, Derbyshire stated:
“For the first half of the 2024 season, Derbyshire has signed former Pakistan fast bowler @iamamirofficial as an overseas player.”
Since May 2022, Amir has not participated in first-class cricket. In a County Championship Division One encounter against Hampshire, he last used the red ball for Gloucestershire. In that match, the left-arm bowler claimed six wickets.
“Mohammad Amir is a well-known fast bowler in the world” – Mickey Arthur expressed his joy at hosting a former Pakistani celebrity in Derbyshire
Mickey Arthur, the head of cricket for Derbyshire County, expressed his happiness at including Mohammad Amir on the team for the 2024 campaign. Arthur stated in a statement issued by the county:
“I’m thrilled to introduce Mohammad, a highly regarded fast bowler, to Derbyshire. For the first half of next season, he will direct our red ball and T20 attack, and I can’t wait to see what he will deliver.”
Next year, Amir will represent Derbyshire in the opening round of the County Championship competition. He will also be accessible throughout the whole Vitality T20 Blast competition.
