- The Mets and Phillies wrap up a three-game set on Sunday
- Philly is a -170 favorite for the finale
- Keep reading for the Mets vs Phillies odds, preview and prediction ahead of first pitch
Sunday brings the series finale between NL East rivals as the New York Mets (35-41, 18-26 away) visit the Philadelphia Phillies (39-37, 20-14 home) at Citizens Bank Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:35 pm ET. New York won 4-2 on Saturday but Philly won the opener.
While the numbers may not show it, there is a couple of solid arms on the hill here as Carlos Carrasco and Zack Wheeler go toe to toe.
Mets vs Phillies Odds
Team | Moneyline | Runline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
New York Mets | +145 | +1.5 (-135) | Ov 9 (-105) |
Philadelphia Phillies | -170 | -1.5 (+115) | Un 9 (-115) |
The Phils are a heavy favorite here with -170 odds while the Mets come back at +145. The total in runs is set at nine. It’s important to note the first two games of this series comfortably hit the under.

New York vs Philadelphia Probable Pitchers
Carrasco has always been known as a very good starter. Unfortunately, that’s not the case in 2023. In nine starts, the veteran owns a 2-3 record and a dismal 6.34 ERA. He’s struck out just 28 hitters in 44 innings and allowed 21 walks. Needless to say, Carrasco is struggling immensely.

It doesn’t help that he gave up five earned runs across three innings last time out against the Cardinals, including two long balls. In fact, Carrasco has been taken deep 10 times this year. On a more positive note, the righty did hold the Phillies to one run in six innings on May 31st. That’s good news.
Carrasco vs Wheeler Stats
2-3 | Record | 6-4 |
6.34 | ERA | 3.48 |
44 | Innings Pitched | 88 |
28 | Strikeouts | 98 |
21 | Walks | 20 |
Wheeler, on the other hand, is dealing. The former Met owns a 3.48 ERA and 6-4 record, racking up 98 strikeouts in 88 innings and walking 20. He also has a WHIP of 1.11. He is easily Philly’s most reliable starter, especially with Aaron Nola stinking up the joint so far.
The right-hander comes into Sunday with no shortage of confidence, too. He tossed six scoreless against the A’s on June 18th and hasn’t allowed more than a run across his last three outings. He’s also compiled a career 3.29 ERA against his former team.
Are The Mets Going to Turn it Around?
All the money in the world doesn’t mean you’ll win. That’s basically the storyline for the Mets in 23′, sitting in fourth place in the NL East and a whole 14 games off the Atlanta Braves, who are in first.
Starling Marte’s first home run in nearly three weeks gives the Mets an early lead today. 423 feet for Marte.

The rotation is under-performing and so is the offense. But, they did look better on Saturday, with Scherzer putting his best foot forward with six innings of two-run baseball while Starling Marte homered to help New York end a three-game skid.
Phillies Playing Well Lately
Just like the Mets, the Phils aren’t exactly living up to expectations after making the World Series last fall. That being said, there has been improvement, going 7-3 in their last 10 contests. Scoring runs continues to be an issue though, averaging just 4.4 per game. Not good enough for an MLB lineup full of star power.
Philadelphia had nine hits Saturday including a 3 for 3 day for Nicholas Castellanos, but they stranded nine runners and couldn’t really muster up much offense off Scherzer. Nevertheless, the Phillies will be looking to get to Carrasco amid his poor campaign.

Mets vs Phillies Predictions
I really don’t have much confidence in Carrasco. Although I do believe he could pitch better here, I still expect the Phillies to come out on top behind Wheeler. Given the trends of the under, that’s a good pick as well.
Picks: Phillies moneyline (-175), Under 9 runs (-115)
