From sweeping the Phillies and then getting swept by the Blue Jays, the New York Mets (30-30, 15-18 away) are hoping the trend bucks back to winning when they open up a three-game set against the Atlanta Braves (35-24, 15-14 home).
The NL East rivals will meet for just the fourth time this season, with the Braves holding a slight 2-1 edge.
Oddsmakers, however, like Atlanta at home in the MLB odds, pegging the Braves as -170 favorites on the moneyline.
The series opener kicks off Tuesday (June 6) at 7:20pm ET from Truist Park in Atlanta, GA. You can watch the game live on TBS.

New York vs Atlanta Probable Pitchers
Carlos Carrasco gets the ball for the Mets, hoping to continue his strong recent pitching, getting him to 2-2 on the season, and somewhat deflating his ERA to 5.74.
After dropping his first two starts of the year, Carrasco has won his last two, and the Mets have won all four of his starts.

— SNY Mets (@SNY_Mets) June 1, 2023
Last time out, he gave up just one earned run and one walk, striking out four in a 4-1 win over the Phillies. Prior to that start, he went a solid 6.2, again surrendering just the lone earned run and again fanning four as the Mets beat the Cubs 10-1.
Carrasco is 2-2 with a 4.30 ERA in five career games (four starts) against the Braves.
Carrasco vs Elder Stats
2-2 | Record | 3-0 |
5.74 | ERA | 1.92 |
1.37 | WHIP | 1.16 |
.248 | OBA | .236 |
1.46 | SO/W Ratio | 2.95 |
Atlanta counters with their own righty, Bryce Elder, who is a perfect 3-0 this year with a 1.92 ERA.
Despite a pretty good month of May, where he’s allowed just seven earned runs in six starts with a 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio, Elder has only factored into one decision, a 6-0 win over the Marlins on May 2.
Since then, he’s gone five straight outings without a decision. Last time out, he went 7.1 innings, surrendering just a single run while striking out five and walking three in an eventual 2-1 loss to Oakland.
Last year was his first and only appearance against the Mets, and it was a struggle. Elder gave up 3 runs in 2.1 innings of relief in an 8-5 loss.
New York vs Atlanta Player Prop Picks
We’ve found some player props worth targeting from our friends at FanDuel. In seven starts this season, Carrasco has yet to top his strikeout total set of 4.5. He has struck out four batters on three occasions, but I’m not sure this is where he breaks through. Atlanta is 19th in strikeouts on the year, so target the under at -138 odds.

For the Braves, Ronald Acuna Jr enters this one with back-to-back multi-hit games as the Braves won the last two of their three game set with the Diamondbacks. Acuna has hit Carrasco well, albeit in a small sample, batting .375 with a homer and three RBI in eight at-bats. He’s got +145 odds to get at least two hits Tuesday.
Mets vs Braves Predictions
This is New York’s first trip to Atlanta since getting swept late last season, in a series that ultimately proved to be the tiebreaker for the Braves to win the NL East.
The one constant for New York in a sweep of the Phils and getting broomed by the Jays is the lack of offense. The Mets could only muster 10 runs against Philly, and just five across three losses to Toronto.
Putting up runs isn’t an issue for the NL East leaders, as the Braves are tied for fifth in the bigs in runs scored, averaging 5.03 per contest.
Mets vs Braves 2023 H2H Results
Date | Away Team | Home Team | Result |
---|---|---|---|
May 1 | Braves | Mets | NYM, 5-3 |
May 1 | Braves | Mets | ATL, 9-8 |
April 28 | Braves | Mets | ATL, 4-0 |
While the yo-yo that has been the Mets season makes them an always-intriguing wager, don’t overthink this one.
Elder has given up four earned runs in his last three home starts, while New York has lost four of their last six away from Citi Field. They’re also 0-4 in their last four in the ATL, and 1-6 in their last seven overall against the Braves.
Pick: Braves -1.5 (+115)
