Men’s Wimbledon Singles 2024 Predictions: Alcaraz to retain crown – plus an 18/1 each-way shout
Wimbledon top-seed Jannik Sinner and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz have been drawn to meet in the semi-finals at the All England Club, while second-seed Novak Djokovic can’t meet either of this year’s Grand Slam singles winners until the final.
Ahead of what promises to be a cracking couple of weeks, here’s my Men’s Wimbledon Singles 2024 predictions.
Carlos Alcaraz @ 5/2
As per Betfred’s Men’s Wimbledon Singles 2024 Odds, Sinner is favourite to win Wimbledon this year – but while the Italian will be out to make it successive fast-court Grand Slam triumphs following his victory in the Australian Open in January, he looks to have his work cut out slightly more than his great rival Carlos Alcaraz.
Spaniard Alcaraz, of course, goes to the London major after collecting his first French Open title in early June.
The world No.3 stepped up his level nicely in Paris to dominate on the clay and it should be remembered that Alcaraz was value for his All England Club final triumph over Novak Djokovic last year.
Alcaraz started slowly and Djokovic actually did well to win two sets against the Murcian, so with the veteran Serb having been below his former imperious best for much of 2024, it’s difficult to advise a bet on the seven-time Wimbledon champion, even though he avoids his two chief young rivals until the final.
Alcaraz has only the Australian Open to win to make it a full quota of Grand Slam titles, yet it’s pretty clear that he has not been at his best down under in his career – his quarter-final placing there in January was his best effort yet.
Discount the Melbourne Park tournament, then, and Alcaraz looks the man to beat in the three other majors. He’s already trousered the French Open, so could take a world of stopping in London and New York.
Add to the mix the fact that Sinner is highly likely to face a potentially difficult clash with compatriot and 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini in the second round this year and Alcaraz looks even better value to reign on the grass again.
Hubert Hurkacz each-way @ 18/1
Instead of backing Djokovic to make the final, have an interest on one of tennis’s quieter heroes, Hubert Hurkacz, reaching the title match at Wimbledon this year.
The consistent Pole is getting better and better and, with doubts over Djokovic’s level aged 37, Hurkacz looks nicely placed to make it through to the final Sunday.
Hurkacz, 27, should be in or near his physical prime and the 2021 Wimbledon semi-finalist, who was victorious in the Miami Masters in the same year, has a big chance to go at least one better on the lush lawns this year.
