I have two BC wines for you today. One is from Mayhem Wines in the Okanagan Valley and the other from the Robin Ridge Winery in the Similkameen Valley. I thought these two wines may show off some fresh BC fruit flavours and go well with holiday get-togethers. Let me tell you about them.
My Wine Tasting Notes
Mayhem Wines Anarchy Pinot Gris 2023 (BC $26.18)
From the winery, “This is the first vintage of our Anarchy Pinot Gris which is fermented in a combination of ceramic balls (41%), neutral puncheon (17%), and stainless steel (42%). Hand-harvested from Belich Vineyard in Kaleden, BC.”
Appearance: It has a clear, bright, medium-intensity pear skin colour.
Nose: Medium-intensity aromas of ripe pears and touches of honey, apricot, and grape stem. With some air, I also picked up a peach scent. I really enjoyed the aromas of this wine. Full of fruit and honey. No change with decanting.
Palate: This wine is dryish, medium-bodied, with a round, smooth, thicker mouthfeel. Juicy pear flavour along with some apples and pepperiness. Medium acidity leaves a light acidic prickle on your tongue. A touch of drying tannins. Some pear skin flavour toward the finish. No change to the flavours or body after decanting.
Finish: Medium-plus length with a mix of pears, apples, pear skin and honey flavours. A touch of pepperiness. Lightly drying tannins plus some grape stem bitterness. No change to the finish after decanting. Nice fruit flavours till the end.
A wine with lots of bright fruit aromas and flavours. Take this wine to a party. No need to decant. Ajay did a great job for his first vintage of this wine.

Robin Ridge Winery Gamay 2022 (BC $27.25)
Robin Ridge Gamay 2022 is an organic wine.
Appearance: A clear, but deep garnet colour in the glass.
Nose: Medium-minus intensity aromas of smoked meat, leather, and red fruits, with touches of sweet spices and oak. No change to the aromas after decanting.
Palate: This wine is dry, with medium-plus body, lightly round, and a thicker mouthfeel. You get bright red fruit flavours, juicy berries, plums, smoky meat and leather on the palate, plus touches of floral and oak. Medium tannins and acidity. The wine becomes rounder and less floral after decanting.
Finish: A longer length finishing with drying tannins, floral, juicy berries, and tart red fruit flavour that stretches to the very end. Less floral on the finish after decanting. But there is now some pepperiness.
An impressive Gamay wine.Nicely structured between acidity, tannins, and fruit. No need to decant. Enjoy with roast beef or duck.
