Manchester City to win

Manchester City have produced some outstanding performances in this season’s Champions League and can land the trophy for the first time by defeating Inter in Istanbul.

Pep Guardiola’s side made light work of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in the knockout rounds and arrive at the final full of confidence after last Saturday’s 2-1 success over Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

Inter should also feel good about themselves having won 11 of their last 12 fixtures, including 2-0 and 1-0 triumphs over bitter rivals Milan in the Champions League semi-finals.

But their route to the final has been much more straightforward than City and they may struggle to cope with the Premier League champions this weekend.

Over 3.5 goals

City were involved in two goalless draws in the group stage but five of their 12 Champions League matches have generated at least four goals and there is a strong possibility of a high-scoring outcome in the final.

Inter’s initial approach will be to defend in numbers and try and prevent City from getting off to a flying start.

But City have scored inside the opening 25 minutes in four of their last five matches and, if they strike early in Istanbul, it could set them up for a convincing success.

Inter may have to chase the game at some point and that would surely play into the hands of their opponents, who can be devastating when given space to exploit.

City’s knockout stage wins at home to RB Leipzig (7-0), Bayern Munich (3-0) and Real Madrid (4-0) are prime examples of what they are capable of, and they might be in a crowd-pleasing mood in the final.

Football Betting Odds

Ilkay Gundogan to score

Erling Haaland is the Champions League’s top scorer this season with 12 goals in 10 appearances and he is sure to attract a lot of attention from Inter’s back three.

The Nerazzurri defenders will probably look to double up on the Norwegian, but there will be space for others to exploit and Ilkay Gundogan is usually an expert at finding it.

Gundogan has netted 29 Premier League goals over the last three seasons and was City’s two-goal hero in last weekend’s FA Cup final.

The German has notched six goals in his last three appearances and has every chance of finding the net in Istanbul.

Rodri to be carded

The biggest threat to City will probably come from counter-attacks.

Inter like to go direct and early into their front two, usually Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez, and City will need to be careful not to be caught out.

City like their wide centre-backs, Kyle Walker and Manuel Akanji, to get forward so there is a massive responsibility on holding midfielders Rodri and John Stones to offer protection and assistance.

Of the duo Rodri is more likely to make tactical fouls and he looks an obvious yellow card contender.
