It goes without saying that England should be winning this game comfortably, and with the options that Gareth Southgate has available, there’s a good chance the Three Lions can rack up the goals here.
Malta have fallen to defeat in each of their previous three meetings with England, and Southgate’s side have won their previous Group C matches so far so they’re heavily fancied again.
Southgate will want to see his team take control of this game early on and put the result beyond doubt as quickly as possible – England scored twice in the first half of their victories over Italy and Ukraine, so I believe they will do so again on Friday.
Harry Kane to score first
Fresh off the back of equalling his best-ever Premier League scoring season by racking up 30 strikes, the England skipper should be brimming with confidence ahead of his return to the international stage.
In addition, Kane became England’s record goalscorer when he bagged in the aforementioned 2-1 win over Italy earlier this year before striking in the subsequent fixture against Ukraine.
In fact, the England talisman has made the net bulge in each of his last four international outings and he looks primed to extend that run against Malta.

Only France and Italy have managed to breach England’s backline across their last six matches and it would come as a real surprise if Malta were able to land a blow here in what is very much an international mismatch.
The Three Lions have built much of their success under Gareth Southgate on a strong defensive foundation, so I think backing both teams not to score is the way to go here.
