Wand massagers have long held their place at the top of the sex toy food chain thanks to their incomparable speeds and power. The newest wand on the block is the Magic Wand Plus, an upgraded version of the old Hitachi classic. Though the Magic Wand has been around forever, the original formula has worked so well over the years that only a few tweaks have been made. Would more settings, a faster highest speed, and a silicone head mean that I throw my old faithful vibe away? Find out in my Magic Wand Plus review!
I think the Magic Wand Plus should be crowned Queen of All Sex Toys, not only for her power but also for her longevity. This will rip orgasm after orgasm out of you with ease and is worth every penny. Even if you’ve tried other Magic Wands, the new version’s power may shock you.
The only reason you shouldn’t purchase this toy is if it is not in your budget, you already own the Original Wand, or you simply can’t be chained to the wall when masturbating, which you will be thanks to its plug-in setup. If you own the Original Wand, you will only want to upgrade to get a wider range of settings (with minimal increase in power) and a non-porous head.
Who Is This For? If you enjoy regular vibrators but wish their vibration strength was more intense, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the Magic Wand Plus. Anyone who loves external stimulation will find that this sex toy makes other wands seem weak by comparison.
Who Is This Not For? Shower masturbators won’t have much use for a toy that needs to be plugged into the wall, and they will enjoy a submergible wand like the Dame Com better. Further, anyone who wants internal stimulation of any kind will find wand vibrators of all brands rather disappointing and might prefer a rabbit vibe like the Lelo Soraya Wave or a Dame Arc for pinpoint G-spot stimulation. Lastly, if you don’t like broad stimulation where the strong vibrations reach every last part of your pelvic floor, Magic Wands aren’t the right choice for you. Instead, consider a pinpoint-friendly sex toy like the Dame Pom or the We-Vibe Touch X.

What Is the Magic Wand Plus?
The Magic Wand Plus is a wand-shaped corded vibrator that delivers incredible orgasms for anyone with a clitoris, as long as the vibes you like are strong and broad. Authentic yet upgraded, the Magic Wand Plus is the same time-tested and beloved design that has gotten people with vulvas off for decades, but it also has new features, like the ability to choose four different speeds. It plugs into the wall, which ensures maximum power, but it does keep you on a bit of a leash.
First Impressions and Features

Unboxing the Magic Wand Plus is straightforward. Inside the box, you receive the Magic Wand Plus, an instruction manual, and the cord. That’s it! The only thing that’s missing is a sample packet of lubricant and a storage bag for safekeeping. (In the image below, you can see all the items laid out on my kitchen table.)

The Magic Wand Plus has upgraded features, including:
- Four-speed levels, with the highest reaching 6,300 RPM and incredible power
- Body-safe silicone head
- Flexible neck
- One-year warranty

How To Use the Magic Wand Plus?
Using the Magic Wand Plus couldn’t be easier. After you take it out of the box, wash the head carefully. Plug the cord into the wall, and use the circular button to turn the toy on. The plus button increases the speed, and the minus will decrease it. The control panel lights on the side are handy indicators of how high up you have it, and you have four settings to try.
Then, you press the device up against your clitoris (or penis, if your penis likes vibrations or has purchased one of the attachments that magically turn the Plus into a stroker). Never insert the Plus—it’s meant for external use only. When you’re done, unplug it and store it somewhere safe until you’re ready for your next vibration session.

My Personal Experience With Magic Wand Plus
I always start by reading the user manual before using a toy. And since this toy plugs into the wall, I had the pleasure of reading an anxiety-inducing user manual that is seriously concerned about your ability to not electrocute yourself in your pursuit of an orgasm. As you can see in my image below, it has three levels of peril: danger, warning, and caution. The list is long and riddled with typos, but you will be fine if you use common sense and don’t use the Plus around water.
When I first tried the Plus, I realized immediately what an incredibly powerful motor it has, which is the calling card of gadgets like this. If you aren’t used to it, it can feel overwhelming at first. But before long, it’ll have you saying, “holy fuck!” It’s so powerful that the vibrations can’t help but travel to your hands. If you take a long time to masturbate, your hands might go numb. Mine did, but it was worth it.
There are several things that I like about using the Plus. For starters, it is powerful and the stimulation it offers is broad. You can feel the thrum of the motor in your thighs even when it’s pressed directly against your clit. This makes it a perfect gadget to use with a partner. Even if they don’t put it exactly where you do when you’re masturbating, the incredible power will likely reach your favorite spot and make it possible to orgasm.
The cord is six feet long, so it’s relatively easy to use if you have a wall outlet by your bed. I do have an outlet by my bed, so it wasn’t a problem at all. If you don’t, you may want to get an extension cord. It feels kind of old-timey, like writing a hand-written letter or saying, “Heavens to Betsy,” but in a sexual way. I must admit that out of habit, I unplugged it and tried to turn it on several times.
Overall, I found this massager to be something I’ll use with my partner again and again.
Packaging
I like Magic Wand’s packaging because it’s no-nonsense. As you can see in the image below, it looks medical, which can be a drawback if you’re getting this as a gift for someone. But I like to think of masturbation as a form of self-care, so the packaging doesn’t bother me in the slightest. You won’t find words like “wild,” “naughty,” or “secret” anywhere on the box.
When I first started masturbating with toys, the products at the local sex toy were always called something like “sinful secrets,” which doesn’t send an incredibly sex-positive message. I love that the Magic Wand packaging normalizes masturbation to the point of being a bit dull.
Design
I’ll be honest: the design could use an update. It still looks like something from a late-70s drugstore to me or something you might find at a dentist’s office. It’s sleeker than the original version, but it’s still one of the least sexy toys I have, aesthetic-wise.
However, some parts of the design are incredible. For instance, the cord is removable to make it easier to store without damaging it. But there’s a small switch on the front of the Plus (I circled it in the image above) that allows you to lock the cord in place so that it won’t slip out when you’re using the Plus. Neat!
Material
The material used for the Wand is not super luxurious but it is body-safe. The silicone head (image below) is an upgrade from the original vinyl head, and that is a massive improvement.
Vinyl is porous meaning that it has thousands of tiny homes just waiting for bacteria to move in. Once the bacteria move in, there’s no way to completely sterilize it, ever. Porous toys are not ideal, especially in terms of longevity. You can use them for short periods, as long as only one person is using them with only one body part. But what’s worse is that if you happen to be masturbating on your period, you might stain the head with menstrual blood. You don’t want your Wand looking like forensic evidence!
Silicone, on the other hand, is non-porous and relatively straightforward to sterilize. So, though the material isn’t luxurious, it is better than what came before.
Stimulations
The Magic Wand invented the rumble, and I’ve never used anything rumblier than the Wand. The Magic Wand Plus may be the rumbliest toy I own.
It has four levels which are indicated by the 4 LED lights above, and even the first level of intensity is quite surprising. The higher the speed, the more the rumble gets a bit buzzy. I prefer the lowest speed setting as it has the most rumbles. The highest setting makes me feel numb fairly quickly, so I wouldn’t use it very often. With such a powerful first setting, who needs it?
If you have experience when it comes to wand vibrators, it can be overwhelming. You can read this guide about how a wand vibrator feels like to have some sort of idea of what you’re getting into.
Sound Level
This toy is going to be among the louder in your vibrator collection. However, it’s not even close to as loud as a sex machine. When I tested it, the decibels ranged from 48 to 67, so the noise level was on par with the level of power. (You can see the max decibel reading in the below image.)
Will your housemates hear you in the next room? Possibly, if you have thin walls and don’t turn on the television or some music to cover the sound.
Build Quality and Dimensions
The build quality is excellent. There’s a reason Magic Wand has been around for such a long time, and it’s because they make sturdy, long-lasting toys. The Magic Wand Plus doesn’t feel fragile even though the wand head bends slightly. The buttons are easy to find and press, and the cord isn’t flimsy.
The dimensions are large if you’re used to smaller palm or finger vibes. However, this isn’t a bad thing; in fact, it means you don’t have to reach so far. But if you want to use it during sex, you’ll have to use it in the spooning position, doggy style, or another configuration that allows you to have some space between your partner or the bed and your clit. To give you an idea of the size, I put the Plus next to some other wand vibrators in the image above.

Ease of Use
The Plus is the near-pinnacle of easy-to-use wands. It only has three buttons: the power button and a plus and minus button. The first button turns it on and off, and the plus and minus buttons take you through the speed settings. You plug it into the wall, and boom, you’re officially a Magic Wand Plus expert! There is no learning curve, no need to page through a thick manual. You can buy this toy, wash the head, and get started. It never runs out of battery mid-use, you don’t have to remember to charge it, and you don’t have to replace batteries.
The only drawback in the ease-of-use category is the fact that it’s not waterproof because not only does that limit how you can use it, but it also makes cleaning more of a chore.
Versatility
This toy is on the low end of the spectrum for versatility. It only does one thing, but it does that one thing better than most, which is why it has lasted for decades. If vibration gets you off, you might not find a better toy than this. But if you don’t like vibrations—deep, rumbly, in-your-face vibrations—this toy won’t do much for you because that’s its sole function. Further, this massager doesn’t have patterns, only steady speeds.
Yet, the Plus is somewhat versatile. For instance, since this toy is durable and powerful, you can use it to effectively massage your partner’s muscles. Yep, it works as a back massager, too!
If you want to increase the versatility, you can purchase third-party accessories to switch the Plus from a clitoral vibrator to a penis stroker and more!
Warranty and Support
Magic Wand offers a one-year warranty on their products if they are unusable due to defects or workmanship.
Minor Issues I Found During Testing
The vibration intensity of the Magic Wand is second to none, but if I had to pick a qualm, it’s that it’s fairly pricey and doesn’t come with a storage bag. You also have to stay close to an outlet, but that wasn’t a big deal to me. Lastly, the design could use an update, too.
For those who aren’t huge fans of staying close to a power supply and prefer something you can carry everywhere, you can find good options in this list of the best wand vibrators.

Magic Wand Original
The Magic Wand Original (formerly Hitachi Magic Wand, now Vibratex Magic Wand) has a similar look to the Plus but has different functionality. The Original Magic Wand is indeed the original and has been recognized as one of the most influential devices of all time, changing the game of pleasure for people with clits.
What’s different about it is that it only has two settings, the head is vinyl, and it goes up to 6,000 rpm, 300 less rpm than the top speed of the Plus. But the settings aren’t “low” and “high,” as you might imagine, but “high” and “OMG.” One of the main advantages of purchasing the Magic Wand Plus is that there’s a bit more of a range for people who need it, like me. The upgrades come at a steep cost, though, as the Original is much cheaper than the new version.
The Magic Wand Original worked for our foremothers, and it can work for you, too. Just do the math before making your final decision (pun intended.) You can grab a Magic Wand Original for $90.
If you want to make a side-by-side comparison between the two, here’s our Magic Wand Original review.
Magic Wand Rechargeable
The Magic Wand Rechargeable is comparable to the Magic Wand Plus, but it doesn’t need to be plugged in during use. As its name suggests, you can charge and recharge the Magic Wand Rechargeable, allowing you to masturbate around the house as you please rather than tethered to your bed. The Rechargeable lasts for three powerful hours and it takes as long to charge, and it has vibration patterns which the Plus does not.
I was hoping the rechargeable version would be water resistant, which it’s not, so Vibratex still hasn’t solved the problem of how to make a waterproof wand that will bring you to your knees with powerful orgasms. You can grab the cordless Magic Wand Rechargeable for $120 when on sale.
If you’re quite unconvinced about what to get, you can check out the full review of the Magic Wand Rechargeable right here to learn more.
Dame Com
The Dame Com is an updated version of the Original Hitachi Magic Wand, much like the Magic Wand Plus. However, the Com is made from silicone, comes in two modern colors, and has five different vibration patterns and a travel lock. Though the Com is quieter and substantially more attractive, the Plus wins for more intense clit stimulation. However, the Com is rechargeable, and you can use it in the bathtub. You can have a Com of your very own for $83.
If you want to check out how well the waterproof feature and rechargeability feature complement each other, read the Dame Com review we made.
Lovense Domi 2
The Lovense Domi 2 is an app-compatible wand vibrator meant for long-distance couples and those who want to have more control over the vibration speeds, intensities, and patterns. The Lovense App opens up a world of possibilities, though you may not want to use the app if you’re playing solo as the Domi 2 is heavy and it will be difficult to manipulate the toy and your phone at once.
The Domi has a noticeably sexier design, made with a seamless blend of ABS plastic and silicone. It’s sleek, rechargeable, and water-resistant. Though it has more than the four speeds of the Plus, it still can’t top the Plus’ powerful vibrations. You can grab a Lovense Domi 2 for $119.
Before finalizing your option on what to get, best read this Lovense Domi 2 review to help you make an informed decision.
Le Wand Rechargeable
Next on the list of vibrators to consider is the Le Wand Rechargeable, another heavy hitter when it comes to powerful vibes. Unlike the Magic Wand Plus, it comes with a storage bag, has twenty vibration patterns to choose from, and has a modern design. Plus, you can use it cordlessly, which frees you up to masturbate wherever you please. It’s prettier than the Plus, but it’s not stronger. It can certainly help you climax, but it would never double as a muscle massager the way the Plus can.
If want to have an idea of how strong the Le Wand is, you can find out by reading this complete Le Wand Rechargeable review.
You can grab a Le Wand Rechargeable for $179.99.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What Is the Best Lube for Magic Wand Plus?
The Magic Wand Plus has a silicone head, so keep it far away from any silicone lube. Water-based lube is the best lube for Magic Wand Plus, as it will keep the nonporous surface nonporous, meaning you can get the most out of it, and it will stay body-safe as long as possible.
Is Magic Wand Plus Waterproof?
No, no, The Magic Wand Plus is the opposite of waterproof. It’s a plug-in toy and is dangerous to use around any significant amount of water.
How Do I Clean Magic Wand Plus?
Since the Magic Wand Plus can be ruined by water, you’ll have to take extra care when you wash it. After unplugging it, wash the head only with warm water and mild soap, ensuring that you never submerge it. Then, dry the head with a towel. You can clean the rest of the body with a damp cloth as necessary.
Here’s a complete guide on how to clean a magic wand for more tips and techniques.
How Do I Store Magic Wand Plus?
The Magic Wand Plus doesn’t come with a storage bag, so you may want to purchase one for it. The manual suggests that you store it somewhere cool and dry, not leaving it in direct sunlight, not abandoning it somewhere it’s too humid, and not letting it freeze. The simplest way is to buy a makeup bag that will keep it protected. The cord will easily detach for easy storage, which is a nice touch.
Is the Packaging Discreet?
Yes, the Magic Wand Plus comes discreetly packaged, and certain sites will ship internationally. You can rest at ease that your order won’t be anybody’s business but your own.
