Lucky 15

Todays’ Horse Races

Wednesday’s action is spread nicely around the UK, and there’s an evening card at Tipperary over in Ireland. Thirsk stage an eight-race extravaganza, and it’s to North Yorkshire and James Herriot country then that we’ll journey for our Lucky 15 tips.

First race is scheduled for 14:15, and it’s yet another of my favourite haunts. It’s far too long since I’ve visited, and will certainly do so before the summer is out. If you’re playing, good luck, take care, and as always, have fun.

Lucky 15 Tips Wednesday

Thirsk

  • 14:45 – Believitandyoucan @ 11/4
  • 15:15 – Thunder Run @ 13/8
  • 16:20 – King’s Crown @ 9/2
  • 17:55 – Northern Prince @ 7/2

Horse Racing Odds

14:45 – Believitandyoucan @ 11/4

A stayers’ handicap, and an improving three-year-old Make Believe gelding who looks primed and ready to strike.

Old rival The Crafty Mole opposes once again, and the selection is emphatically weighted to reverse May 20 running at Redcar which saw ‘The Mole’ win by a length in receipt of 9lb.

The victor that day has since admittedly subsequently run very well on two occasions but as a result must now concede 3lb to Believitandyoucan, who hasn’t run since. That’s a serious turnaround, and Lewis Edmonds can steer Jessica Macey’s charge to a deserved success.

15:15 – Thunder Run @ 13/8

Karl Burke, Danny Tudhope, and a three-year-old Clipper Logistics gelding with just the one highly-promising run under his belt. Yes please.

Danny was on board for that debut spin, at Wetherby, and Racing Post race readers rated it as ‘did well in the circumstances.’ There’s not a great deal of form to go on but his main rival could turn out to be William Haggas’ The Reverend, a sound winner of a novice on his only start to date at Newmarket.

That win means he’s conceding 7lb to my selection, and I’m hoping that will prove a bridge too far. The Reverend interestingly has an entry in next month’s Great Voltigeur at York’s Ebor Festival (1m 4f), and today’s test is at a mile.

Thunder Run steps up to a mile from that first 7f outing and being by top miler Night Of Thunder that should be ideal. Cracking race in prospect.

16:20 – King’s Crown @ 9/2

County Durham handler Michael Dods has been in decent nick at various points this term, not neccessarily right now, but I’m hoping he can change all that with his four-year-old Starspangledbanner gelding King’s Crown.

He found a nice piece of form last time at Chester 19 days ago, finishing a close-up sixth beaten just 1.5l in a warmer contest for the grade. He’s obligingly down a  couple of pounds for that too, and despite being without a score since May ’22 Connor Beasley can put that right on Wednesday afternoon.

17:55 – Northern Prince @ 7/2

The lucky last, and time for Tim.

Easterby that is, major part of the famous Yorkshire racing dynasty, and our selection Northern Prince. He’s a class-dropper today, and ran on well last time late in the piece over a furlong less, beaten just 1.25l.

The 6f today should be spot-on, and though his form is modest it’s a very ordinary second division of a basement handicap. Connections might just have found an ideal little heat to gain a first victory on his seventh racecourse appearance to date.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today’s selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £300 for your total £7.50 stake.
