Lucky 15 Tips: Take James in the opener
Only one day to go before the Betfred St Leger meeting at Doncaster – a four-day feast in South Yorkshire with the world’s oldest Classic as its centrepiece. In the meantime we’re taking in an eight-race gathering at Lingfield for our Lucky 15 tips on Wednesday, September 11, with the action starting at 14:05.
Plenty of the sport’s biggest names are in attendance, including the recent inductee to the 1,000-winner club Hollie Doyle. Here we go then …
Lucky 15 Tips Wednesday
Lingfield
14:05 – Master Dandy @ 15/8
The selection is a four-year old gelded son of the mighty Dandy Man, a welcome standing dish in some of our best sprints just shy of 20 years ago.
Master Dandy is with James Fanshawe at Newmarket, and 5lb claimer Olivia Tubb is on board in this race confined to apprentices. He’s dropping down to a Class 6 handicap for the first time and has slipped to a tempting-looking mark of 67, which took him to within 1.25l of victory at Southwell 16 days ago.
I believe his turn to strike is at hand and a first outing on Lingfield’s Polytrack surface could be a winning one.
15:40 – Sixteen One @ 5/4
George Boughey trains this two-year-old filly and a young man extensively utilised by the stable, Billy Loughnane, is in the plate.
Just the one run so far – a fine effort, narrowly giving best, in a Leicester maiden 42 days ago. Steps up a furlong to 7f today, and the way Sixteen One finished last time this should be well within compass, especially as Lingers is less testing in nature than Leicester in my book.
Not much form to go on here but the snippet laid down by the Boughey filly puts her bang there with a big shout.
16:15 – Joolianoss @ 10/3
Three-year-olds, in a modest Class 6 handicap, over a mile.
Joolianoss ran really well over course-and-distance 20 days ago, going down by only half-a-length. The three-year-old Dark Angel gelding put in a career-best on that day and is up just a pound today.
To more than offset that, claiming rider Joe Leavy takes off a valuable 3lb putting the horse absolutely there for me in prime position to score, on what will be his fifth start all told to date.
17:50 – The Pug @ 5/1
Our selection is a four-year-old Churchill gelding, tackling a 12f Class 6 handicap.
Sylvester Kirk trains at Upper Lambourn, and Rob Hornby rides. The Pug has slipped to a mark of 59 after peaking at 67 in the spring. He won off 62 around this time last year, and a week ago ran a fine second at Southwell over just a furlong less than today’s journey.
By every yardstick he’s got a bright chance on a course where he’s been successful before, and the lucky last can be just that for us, fingers crossed.
If you’re playing take care, have fun as always, and good luck.
This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today’s selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £230 for your total £7.50 stake.
Fred, ‘The Bonus King,’ invented the ‘Lucky’ series of bets and their bonuses. My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide – take a look by clicking here.
