Lucky 15 Tips: Super Sox ready for next step

Brighton Racecourse

There are just three UK and Irish meetings taking place on Sunday, the first day of September, with action coming from Brighton and Tipperary on the Flat alongside Worcester over jumps.

The highlight is the Fairy Bridge Stakes, a Group 3 for Fillies and Mares, due off at 15:30 from Tipperary.

Our Lucky 15 Tips below include the improving Super Sox for in-form trainer Paddy Twomey in the feature race in Ireland.

Lucky 15 Tips – Sunday, September 1

  • 15:10 Worcester – Topofthecotswolds @ SP
  • 15:22 Brighton – Rosy Hope @ SP
  • 15:30 Tipperary – Super Sox @ SP
  • 16:10 Worcester – Brilliant Light @ SP

15:10 Worcester – Topofthecotswolds @ SP

Nigel Twiston-Davies has a superb record at Worcester, with a near 20 per-cent strike-rate across the last five seasons and a profit of +19.13 to a level stake in that sequence.

The Naunton handler has just one runner on Sunday’s card as TOPOFTHECOTSWOLDS begins his season in the hands of the trainer’s son, Sam, who has ridden more Worcester winners (39) in the last five seasons than any of his weighing-room rivals.

Topofthecotswolds has a decent if not spectacular record when returning from a break and he has slipped to a very workable mark of 120 now, 2lb lower than when he won over C&D in June 2022. He was also second on his only other start over track and trip and may have been found a decent opening here.

15:22 Brighton – Rosy Hope @ SP

This Brighton nursery will see Broadhaven Boy and ROSY HOPE renew acquaintances having finished first and third over slightly shorter 12 days ago and it could be a different outcome now.

The George Baker-trained winner came fast and late to win narrowly last time, doing Rosy Hope no favours when having to switch to get clear room to challenge.

The filly was also coming from the rear in that contest and made up decent ground late on herself, beaten only a half-length at the post. She is 4lb better off with that same rival now and this slightly longer trip should be favourable.

15:30 Tipperary – Super Sox @ SP

The Coolmore Stud No Nay Never Fairy Bridge Stakes is the feature race across Sunday’s card and offers a decent chance for SUPER SOX to make a winning start in Group-race company for Paddy Twomey.

The handler, based nearby in Golden, Co Tipperary, has his team in a rich vein of form and he entered the weekend with three winners from six runners over the last fortnight.

Super Sox won a 7f Curragh maiden in May and, following a break, made the step up in class smoothly as she travelled best under Billy Lee and went clear to win the Listed Platinum Stakes at Cork earlier this month.

She looks ready for this Group 3 assignment and while on paper she has some improvement to find to beat a peak-form Matilda Picotte, that rival hasn’t sparkled this year and might prefer slower ground.

16:10 Worcester – Brilliant Light @ SP

Shark Hanlon has a raider bound for Worcester on Sunday in the form of BRILLIANT LIGHT and the Sea The Stars gelding is fancied to bag the 2m maiden hurdle on the card.

He was quite a useful two-time winner on the Flat and improved from his hurdles bow at Galway in August to finish second at Tramore over this sort of trip on good ground recently.

He couldn’t quite reel in the front-running winner but was closing at the line and that form should do the trick here with Paddy Hanlon claiming 7lb.
