Lucky 15 Tips: Keane can lift Listed prize on Saturday

Lucky 15

Another weekend is upon us, and it’s a belter as far as racing is concerned. There’s a superb eight-race card at the Curragh over in County Kildare, and as we rarely venture there for our Lucky 15 tips that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

Ryan Moore pops across the Irish Sea so it’s a fair bet he’ll be on some Ballydoyle flyers with lofty reputations. Billy Lee and a host of others will be looking to beat them! First race on Saturday August 17 is at 13:45.

Lucky 15 Tips Saturday

Curragh

  • 13:45 – Morning Vietnam @ 7/2
  • 14:15 – Torivega @ 9/2
  • 15:25 – Girl Like You each-way @ 9/1
  • 16:35 – Grosvenor Square @ 5/6

Today’s Horse Races

13:45 – Morning Vietnam @ 7/2

Top Irish jock Colin Keane has ridden this one a couple of times already, including to a win at Dundalk on debut. Gelded quite early for a two-year-old but responded with a career-best last time at Cork, winning cosily.

Morning Vietnam looks to be an improver and could make further steps once again today.

14:15 – Torivega @ 9/2

Now to an experienced four-year-old Lope De Vega gelding, trained by Sheila Lavery and ridden by Robbie Colgan.

Torivega ran really well in the Power family memorial race here four weeks ago and before that had performed with credit too in the Wokingham at the Royal meeting. This is surely a touch gentler and it could well be time to strike.

He ran very well at this very track in May and though lightly-campaigned this term has still shown us plenty.

15:25 – Girl Like You @ 9/1

We’re paying four places each-way in this one.

Time to call upon ‘Joey O’ – the great Classic-winning jockey-turned-trainer Joseph O’Brien. Son of course of Aidan, brother to Donnacha. What a family.

Very promising here on debut but in two subsequent runs hasn’t arguably made the progress one would like to see. However – endured a messy passage last time, also here, and steps back to 6f – the trip at which she’d impressed first time up.

Races in the Tabor silks and has the mighty Declan McDonogh on top.

16:35 – Grosvenor Square @ 5/6

Ryan Moore and Aidan team up here with a three-year-old Galileo colt, and I fear he’s going to be a very warm order indeed.

This is the one that shot miles clear in a G2 at this trip here four weeks ago only to be reeled in by stablemate Tower Of London in the shadow of the post. Any repeat showing should see him nicely home, justifying some very fancy Leger entries both here and in England.

Cracking way to end our L15, with a three-year-old hopefully on the up.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today’s selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £550 for your total £7.50 stake.

Fred, ‘The Bonus King,’ invented the ‘Lucky’ series of bets and their bonuses. My colleague Adam has set out all you need to know with this handy guide – take a look by clicking here.
