Lucky 15 Tips: Jim can bring another Shadwell inmate home

Fine racing is the order of the day on Friday, both in the UK and Ireland. For the purposes of our Lucky 15 tips I’m heading to Flat racing HQ, Newmarket, for a seven-race evening gathering which kicks in at 17:15.

Stacks of top names are involved unsurprisingly, and it should be a fantastic night.

17:15 – Adoon Valley @ 8/11

A powerful combo behind many a two-year-old scorer, trainer George Boughey and jockey Billy Loughnane.

Adoon Valley has had one run so far, and the daughter of Too Darn Hot was a highly-creditable, close-up second in a warm maiden here at HQ. Runs in the famous Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum silks and she sets a very useful standard for the others to aspire to.

Any number of potential dark horses oppose with little to go on form-wise – in some cases none – but given the benefit of that run experience-wise I think she’ll be very difficult to beat on Friday evening.

17:50 – Markoon @ 5/2

It’s the Shadwell silks this time, with retained pilot Jim Crowley in the plate on one that’s not run for 256 days.

However – master trainer William Haggas I’m sure will have the three-year-old Kingman colt in decent fettle for this reappearance, and he signed off his two-year-old season in November with a narrow win in a decent Kempton maiden over this one mile trip.

Markoon has an ordinary Class 4 handicap before him today and though he does have a penalty to shoulder for that win I think he could well be a cut above these.

19:35 – Abate @ 11/2

A north Yorkshire raider now, in the care of Adrian Nicholls, master handler like his late father, of sprinters.

Abate ran really well here nearly a month ago and drops a shade in class today. Down a pound courtesy of the handicapper, too, and Mia Nicholls takes off a further handy 5lb.

This is a vastly-experienced eight-year-old Bated Breath gelding who’s very consistent, and has triumphed here before. Nice chance, and represents a bit of value in my book.

20:40 – American Star @ 5/2

Last race now, and one I saw win very impressively at Chester just a week ago.

Ruth Carr trains, and Billy Loughnane replaces James Sullivan on top. American Star arrived from the rear on the Roodee and settled the race in a matter of strides.

The five-year-old Starspangledbanner is evidently in great heart and follow up.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today’s selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £206 for your total £7.50 stake.
