Lucky 15 Tips: Four to consider for Sunday’s racing
With four British and Irish meetings taking place across Sunday there’s lots of racing action to cater for all tastes.
Amongst it will be the Flat card from the Curragh, where they have seven races from 13:40-16:55 on ground forecast to be ‘Good’. We’ve picked out four horses to follow at the Irish venue for our Lucky 15, including British raider Caernarfon who got back to winning ways at Pontefract last time after a few poor efforts.
Lucky 15 Tips – Sunday, July 21
13:40 Curragh – Charanda @ 16/1
Aidan O’Brien has a couple of very interesting newcomers in the opening 7f maiden, particularly Ballet Slippers whose dam Magical won the Irish Champion Stakes twice.
Nonetheless, Adrian Murray’s CHARANDA has a run under her belt and should improve. She ran well for a long way at Dundalk over 5f in March and the step up in trip should be in her favour, while she also has a Listed entry for Naas on Wednesday.
14:10 Curragh – Cowardofthecounty @ 10/3
Onto the 6f Group 3 Anglesey Stakes where Camille Pissarro and COWARDOFTHECOUNTY renew rivalries after facing off in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot last time, but the latter is taken to come out on top.
Joseph O’Brien’s son of Kodi Bear took the scalp of Whistlejacket on debut over course and distance in April and that form has been given a huge boost as Whistlejacket went on to win the July Stakes at Newmarket after his fourth in the Norfolk.
Cowardofthecounty didn’t fire at Ascot, but he will find this assignment much easier.
15:15 Curragh – Mutasarref @ 3/1
In the Group 2 Minstrel Stakes over 7f, British hopes rest with Karl Burke’s Poet Master, who was very impressive when landing a Newmarket handicap from a mark of 100 in April, but he disappointed in Listed grade last time and has a bit to prove.
The contest looks ripe for Ger Lyons’ MUTASARREF to maintain his fine run of form. Usually fast out of the gates, he won a Listed race at Naas in May before winning a Group 3 at Leopardstown in June by a head, although the pair were well clear of the rest.
16:20 Curragh – Caernarfon @ 13/2
The final selection for the Lucky 15 is British raider CAERNARFON, who bounced back to form at Pontefract last time after a poor run of form.
Trained by Jack Channon, she had to do it the hard way on a track that suits a frontrunner last time, held up in rear in testing conditions and having to pass them all once they turned for home.
It was a taking performance and although she is back up in grade in a tougher race here, she seems to be bouncing fit and can go well.
This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!
The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today’s selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £115 for your total £7.50 stake.
