There are five UK and Irish meetings taking place on Monday, with a mix of Flat and jumps fare.

Thirsk and Windsor go in the afternoon on the Flat, while all-weather action is at Kempton in the evening and there is also the annual meeting on the beach at Laytown to enjoy alongside a National Hunt card from Worcester. Read on for our Lucky 15 tips for Monday, including Clipsham La Habana on his first all-weather run for a new trainer.

Lucky 15 Tips – Monday, September 16

  • 14:37 Windsor – Run Away @ 5/2
  • 15:30 Worcester – Handlethekettle @ 4/6
  • 17:35 Laytown – Beauty Bella @ 11/4
  • 18:00 Kempton – Clipsham La Habana @ 15/2

Today’s Horse Races

14:37 Windsor – Run Away @ 5/2

This Windsor novice represents a lesser assignment for Andrew Balding’s filly RUN AWAY as she bids to make it two wins in three starts.

The daughter of No Nay Never showed a good attitude to score on debut in maiden company at Yarmouth (7f, good) in April and can be forgiven a seemingly disappointing effort at Doncaster (7f, good) on her only outing since on the first day in June.

That Class 2 novice was full of promising rivals and Harry Davies didn’t ask for maximum effort once it was clear his filly was not going to score. She cost €2,600,000 as a yearling and has been given a break since. This ease in grade gives her a chance to get back on the up for a yard in excellent form of late.

14:37 Windsor Winner Run Away

Odds correct at time of publishing.

15:30 Worcester – Handlethekettle @ 4/6

Jamie Snowden will be hopeful that stable debutant HANDLETHEKETTLE can make a winning start in the FBC Manby Bowdler Maiden Hurdle at Worcester.

The Youmzain gelding twice came to grief in Irish points but was second-best at Listowel (2m, good to yielding) in June on his Rules introduction in a maiden.

The winner followed up in good style in a Galway Festival novice on his only start since, and Handlethekettle was 10 lengths clear of the remainder that afternoon with a trio of subsequent hurdles winners amongst the beaten rivals.

This looks a decent starting point for him on his British racecourse bow.

15:30 Worcester Winner Handlethekettle

Odds correct at time of publishing.

17:35 Laytown – Beauty Bella @ 11/4

The annual beach meeting at Laytown takes place on Monday evening and it might be worth giving a chance to BEAUTY BELLA on her first start for a new yard.

The Buratino filly had a rating in the mid-70s for Adrian Murray and is coming here off 63 racing against mostly inferior rivals on level terms. That is before allowing for Cian MacRedmond claiming 5lb in the saddle and if she takes to this unique set-up, she could be hard to stop.

17:35 Laytown Winner Beauty Bella

Odds correct at time of publishing.

18:00 Kempton – Clipsham La Habana @ 15/2

CLIPSHAM LA HABANA could be one coming into this Kempton handicap under the radar for trainer Alice Haynes.

The four-year-old switched to this stable from Kevin Philippart De Foy after a decent albeit winless sequence on the all-weather over the winter into the spring.

Since joining this team he has run four times on the turf and his two most recent starts have seen him finish second at Lingfield (7f, good) and third at Newbury (7f, soft) in recent weeks.

The frontrunner was only headed late at Lingfield and soft ground may have been a contributing factor when he was overtaken late on at Newbury.

Both career wins have come on synthetic surfaces and he has finished in the money seven times in 12 starts on the all-weather.

He is 6lb lower than when finished second at Newcastle in December in a better race than this and has his chance to shine.

This is an Extra Place Race so Betfred will be paying 4 Places (1/5 Odds) instead of 3.

18:00 Kempton Winner Clipsham La Habana

Odds correct at time of publishing.

This is an example of a Lucky 15. If you can improve upon my selections (of course you can), then go for it!

The odds can fluctuate between publishing our pieces and race-time. As a guide, a £0.50p win Lucky 15 on today’s selections, at the prices, and assuming all four won, would return around £400 for your total £7.50 stake.
