Louisville Look To Bounce Back
At one point this season, the Louisville Cardinals were 3-0 and the 15th-ranked team in the nation. They’ve since lost three of their past four games and fallen off the national radar. However, all is not lost for the Cardinals.
Led by senior quarterback Tyler Shough, Louisville owns one of the country’s most explosive offenses. Shough has thrown for 18 touchdowns and just three interceptions on 8.6 yards per attempt. The Cardinals average 33.3 points per game, and 6.6 yards per play – both top-30 marks in the FBS. That’s aided by 302 passing yards per game, as Shough slices opposing defenses with reckless abandon.

Unfortunately, Louisville’s defense has been far less effective. The Cardinals surrendered 548 total yards to Miami last week, while giving up 27 first downs and allowing the Hurricanes to convert on 9-of-15 third-down attempts. Most concerningly, they’re yielding an enormous 6.0 yards per play and allowing opponents to convert on over 84% of red-zone opportunities. They’ve also ceded at least 30 points in each of their last three games.
Boston College Aim For Upset
New Eagles head coach Bill O’Brien burst onto the scene with an opening week victory over Florida State, and impressive wins over Michigan State, and Western Kentucky. Since that Week 5 victory, much like Louisville, the wheels have fallen off. Boston College have lost consecutive contests to Virginia and VT by a combined 31 points, and haven’t looked particularly competitive in either contest.
Sophomore Thomas Castellanos has thrown for 1,188 yards, 14 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He’s led Boston College to the 57th-ranked offensive adjusted yards per play and a dropback success rate of 45.8%. Castellanos is always a threat to take off and run is more than capable of creating off-script chunk plays.

The BC defense is phenomenal against the pass. Tim Lewis’ defense is allowing just 231.8 yards per game and 7.2 yards per attempt on the year. They also rank in the top-35 in the country in expected points added conceded against both the rush and pass, and sit 27th in opposing average third-down distance (7.71).
Keep in mind, the Eagles are just 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games at home, albeit with a different coaching staff.
Louisville vs Boston College Prediction
Ultimately, the Cardinals are too heavily favored in this one. Boston College’s offense is a capable unit led by a dual-threat playmaker in Castellanos, who will make the soft Louisville defense pay for their mistakes.
On top of that, Jeff Brohm’s squad is likely still reeling after their strenuous effort against Miami. Boston College’s defense is more than capable of keeping them in this contest. Back the Eagles to cover the 7.5-point spread at home.
