We’ve got a Tuesday night CFB showdown in the Lone Star State. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs head to Huntsville to battle the Sam Houston Bearkats. Kickoff is set for 8:00 PM ET from Field, with ESPNU broadcasting the game.

If you’re looking to get in on the betting action, the Bearkats are laying 10 points with the total set at 45.5. Do the Bulldogs stand a chance against a loaded Sam Houston squad?

Here is our Louisiana Tech vs Sam Houston prediction, along with Tuesday night CFB betting odds.

LA Tech vs Sam Houston Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Over/Under
Louisiana Tech +10 (-110) +300 45.5 (-110)
Sam Houston State -10 (-110) -400 45.5 (-110)

The oddsmakers are giving a clear nod to the home team in this one, installing Sam Houston as a 10-point favorite with a moneyline of -400. That implies an 80% win probability for the Bearkats, which isn’t surprising given their 6-2 record and the Bulldogs’ struggles on the road.

As for the total, 45.5 suggests we could be in for a bit of a rock fight. Both teams have had their share of offensive issues lately, and with Sam Houston QB Hunter Watson’s status up in the air, points could be at a premium.

Bulldogs Betting Analysis

If you’re thinking about backing the ‘Dogs in this spot, there are a few things to consider. First and foremost, this team has been wildly inconsistent, sitting at 3-4 overall and 5th in the Conference USA standings. They’re coming off a less-than-impressive 14-10 win over UTEP, and the offense has been a major question mark.

QB Evan Bullock has put up decent numbers (1,038 yards, 9 TDs, 0 INTs), but the ground game has been nonexistent, averaging a miserable 96.3 yards per contest. The defense has been the saving grace for LA Tech, allowing just 21.6 points per game (22nd in passing yards allowed, 41st in rushing).

If the Bulldogs are going to spring the upset, they’ll need that defense to force some turnovers and give the offense a short field. However, recent betting trends suggest that might be easier said than done. Louisiana Tech is just 1-4 ATS in their last five games and a dismal 3-10 SU in their last 13 contests. They’ve also struggled mightily on the road, going 0-6 SU in their last six away from home.

To make matters worse, the Bulldogs are 1-5 ATS in their last six Conference USA games, 1-6 ATS in their last seven October matchups, and 1-4 SU in their previous five Week 10 tilts. In short, there’s not a lot of historical data pointing in LA Tech’s favor here.

Bearkats Betting Analysis

On the other side of the coin, it’s been a solid year for Sam Houston State. They’re 6-2 and sitting pretty in 4th place in the conference, thanks in large part to an offense that’s putting up 26.9 points and 376.8 yards per game.

The big question mark for the Bearkats is the health of dual-threat QB Hunter Watson. He’s listed as probable after missing last week, and his status is crucial to SHS’s success. Watson leads the team in both passing (987 yards, 9 TDs) and rushing (422 yards, 3 TDs), so if he’s a go, that 10-point spread looks a lot more manageable.

Defensively, Sam Houston has been stingy, giving up just 22.6 points per game (3rd in the conference against the run, 4th against the pass). If Watson plays and the defense does its thing, covering the number shouldn’t be an issue.

Louisiana Tech vs Sam Houston Prediction

When it comes down to it, I have a hard time seeing how LA Tech keeps this one close. Their offense has been too inconsistent, especially on the road. Even en with Watson’s status up in the air, Sam Houston has the defensive chops to make life difficult for the Bulldogs.

The Bearkats are 4-1 ATS with Watson under center, and I expect that trend to continue. Look for SHS to control the game on the ground, keep LA Tech’s offense in check, and ultimately cover the 10-point spread.

Give me Sam Houston State -10, and I’ll sprinkle a little on the under 45.5 while I’m at it. Buckle up, – this one could get ugly.

Tuesday Night CFB Picks:

  • Sam Houston -10 (-110)
  • Under 45.5 (-110)
