“I woke up this morning with a huge anxiety flair so I went downstairs to get my morning cup of tea and decided to add a few drops of my favourite CBD oil. I realized I was out of it and decided to make some from scratch…”
Hey, lovelies! 💚 It’s a perfect day to be in the kitchen, and I’m so excited to walk you through making your very own CBD oil from scratch! Honestly, there’s something so magical about creating this all-natural goodness right at home. It’s a little slice of calm in a bottle! So grab your apron, take a deep breath, and let’s get started!
Step 1: Gather Your Ingredients
First things first, we need to gather our materials. You’re going to need:
- Hemp flower (make sure it’s high-CBD, low-THC – always go organic if you can!)
- Carrier oil (I love using extra-virgin olive oil or coconut oil because they’re both super nourishing)
- A grinder for your hemp flower
- A double boiler or slow cooker
- A cheesecloth (for straining)
- A glass storage bottle (amber is best to protect your oil from light)
I like to pop on some calming music and set a good vibe. It makes the whole process so much more fun.
Step 2: Grind the Hemp Flower
Now, take your hemp flower and gently grind it. Don’t overdo it! We just want to break it down enough to help the cannabinoids release during infusion. This step always makes me feel like I’m prepping for some kind of magical herbal potion. ✨🌱
Step 3: Decarboxylate the Hemp
Okay, this sounds fancy, but don’t worry! Decarboxylation is just a process of gently heating your hemp to activate all the lovely CBD in it. Here’s what to do:
- Preheat your oven to 220°F (105°C).
- Spread the ground hemp evenly on a baking sheet.
- Bake for about 30-45 minutes. Keep an eye on it! You’ll want the colour to shift slightly golden but not burn. Your kitchen will start to smell earthy and lovely by this point.
Step 4: Infuse the Hemp with Oil
Now for the main event! It’s time to infuse all that CBD goodness into our carrier oil.
- Add your decarboxylated hemp and your carrier oil to the top of your double boiler (or into your slow cooker).
- Use a low heat setting. Let it simmer on the lowest heat possible for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Be patient. Let the hemp and oil do their magic. This is when I usually grab a cup of tea and chill out for a bit.
Step 5: Strain and Store
Once your oil has been infused for a few hours, it’s time to strain it. Grab your cheesecloth and strain the oil into your storage bottle. Squeeze out every drop of that liquid gold!
Once it’s strained, I like to store my CBD oil in a cool, dark place – amber bottles are perfect for keeping everything fresh.
And… you’re done!
You’ve just made your very own CBD oil! You can use it in your favourite skincare routine, massage it into sore muscles, or even add a drop to your tea for a soothing moment.
A Word of Caution, Lovelies I’m all about DIY, but it’s important to mention a few things. Using low-quality ingredients or tools that aren’t properly sanitized can make your oil less effective or even unsafe. Hygiene is key! Make sure your workspace and utensils are clean, and always use high-quality hemp.
But honestly, for the most potent and clean results, I always recommend sourcing from a trusted, experienced brand. They’re experts in ensuring the highest quality control and safety. Sometimes, going pro with your CBD is the safest and best option. 💚
Happy DIY’ing, loves!
