Lausanne-Sport get their Swiss Super League campaign underway on Sunday (15:30) as they welcome Basel to Stade de la Tuiliere. Four points separated the two sides last season as they finished the campaign in the bottom six. 

Both will be hoping for better fortune this time around, especially Basel, who are usually expected to be challenging for the title. The hosts have been very busy over the summer with four new players arriving in the form of Manuel Polster (Austrian Vienna), Kevin Mouanga (FC Annecy), Alban Ajdini (Stade-Lausanne) and Teddy Okou (FC Luzern).

All four will be hoping to make their league debuts for their new club and boss Ludovic Magnin could integrate them in quickly as they bid to steer away from relegation trouble this campaign.

Basel have made three signings themselves. Marin Soticek, Leo Leroy and Kevin Ruegg have all signed up for the 20-time champions, all hoping that they can help the Rotblau claim their first crown in seven years.

Draw and both teams to score @ 3/1

I see these two sides playing out a draw in this curtain-raiser, but I fancy both teams to score as well. As I mentioned earlier, there were just four points separating them last term and while both are hoping for better fortune this season, I can see them having to each wait for their first win.

One of their meetings last term was a draw but it was goalless, the other fixtures had a victor, with Lausanne winning all three. Given that last year was the worst season in some time for Basel, I think we should see improvement from them in 2024/25.

It won’t be overnight but they can start off the campaign by avoiding defeat, so I’m fairly confident in these two sides playing out a score draw.

Under 2.5 goals @ 11/10

With that in mind, I don’t think there will be a flurry of goals in Lausanne on Sunday. It isn’t supported by last year’s results, with the three matches involving goals saw at least three goals scored, but I think as this is the first game of the season, both sets of attackers are sure to be a little rusty.

It is also worth making a point of the fact that in nine of Basel’s last 11 league matches, under 2.5 goals landed. Therefore, I think that the trend can continue into the new season.
