Yes, it is still summer, even though the calendar says September. We can keep a summer mindset by drinking fresh crisp wines, like these two BC wines from Township 7 Vineyards & Winery. I received their Township 7 Provenance Series Sauvignon Blanc 2022 and their Provenance Series Rosé 2022 to taste and review for you. Both wines are under screwcap for easy enjoyment. 2022 started off slow with a cool spring and a temperate summer, but then we had a warm Fall which produced quality fruit. These two bottles of wine show off fresh fruit flavours. I quite enjoyed them. Let me tell you about these two wines.
My Wine Tasting Notes
Township 7 Provenance Series Sauvignon Blanc 2022 (BC $24.97)
The grapes for this wine come from their Blue Terrace Vineyard. From the winery, “This single vineyard wine is crafted with stainless steel and barrel fermented Sauvignon Blanc selected from our own Blue Terrace Vineyard in north Oliver. A portion was fermented cool in stainless steel to retain the fragrant varietal aromatics and crisp acidity, whilst the second parcel was fermented in one neutral French barrel at a slightly warmer temperature (16-18°C) to add roundness to the palate and tropical fruits to the profile.”
Appearance: A clear bright lemon colour with green tint.
Nose: Medium-intensity aromas of citrus, grape stem and leaves and a touch of peach. With some air, you also get pineapple and a hint of oak aromas. Same aromas after decanting.
Palate: This wine is dry, with a round, thicker mouthfeel. Fresh flavours of citrus, along with some pear, and hints of apricot and peach. With air, you start to get pineapple flavour and a hint of oak. This wine does have a stony feel toward the finish. Same flavours and acidity, but may now have a hint of lime.
Finish: Medium-plus length finishing with citrus and rind flavours, some bramble leaf and grape stem, and a touch of pepperiness. Some bramble leaf and lime plus more tartness on the finish after decanting.
Drink now or sip leisurely over two days. Fresh citrus flavours primarily, plus pineapple.
Rating: – Medium intensity aromas of citrus mainly plus pineapple with air. A dry wine with a round, thicker smooth mouthfeel. Mainly fresh citrus flavours, with hints of stone fruit, and then pineapple with air. Medium-plus length.
Township 7 Provenance Series Rosé 2022 (BC $27.97)
A blend of 44% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon. The two Cabernets were co-fermented. Also, 7% Pinot Gris was added in. According to the winery, “Our 2022 Rosé is made from Merlot grown on our Naramata Estate vineyard, with the Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon from Sunshine Acres vineyard in Oliver. All varietals were sent directly to press resulting in a fresher more fruit forward juice. The Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon were co-fermented to create integration from the outset. A touch of Pinot Gris was added for complexity. Each of the varietals were cool fermented to maintain aromas and flavours.”
Appearance: A clear, bright medium-intensity peach colour.
Nose: Light aromas of rhubarb, red currant and grape stem and then strawberries with swirling. No change to the aromas after decanting.
Palate: Dryish, round with a medium mouthfeel. It has a light acidic prickle and light fine-grained tannins to give this wine some structure. Red berries, red cherries, plus a hint of floral and oak. Strawberry flavours are added with some swirling. More strawberry flavour after decanting.
Finish: Medium length finishing off-dry with lightly drying tannins. Red cherries, some grape stem bitterness and a touch of pepperiness on the finish. No change to the finish after decanting.
No need to decant this wine. Open and enjoy.
Rating: A lightly scented rosé with rhubarb, red currant, grape stem, and strawberry aromas. Dryish, with a round mouthfeel. Light acidic prickle and light fine tannins. Primarily red cherries, and red berries, with lesser amounts of strawberry, floral, and oak. Medium length.
