Junghans Meister S Chronoscope: Fusion of Sporty Chic and Functionality

The Meister S Chronoscope by Junghans is an exceptional sports chronograph that embodies masculine style with great combination of modern sports watch features.

Based in the German Black Forest region, Junghans’s appeal reflects the timelessness of Bauhaus design as penned by Swiss architect and designer Max Bill. Complementing the Max Bill collection, which is Junghans’s calling card, is the sportier Meister Chronoscope collection. While it features minimalist design, it is also a sporty and modern collection. In 2022, Junghans placed a greater emphasis on technology while refining product quality by introducing domed sapphire crystal for all its future watches, and bumping water resistance of sports watches to 200 meters.

The Meister S Chronoscope is a handsome timepiece with its brushed stainless-steel case and deep midnight blue accents. Its sporty character comes to life through the partly skeletonized hands, bowl-shaped totalizers with macchiato brown pointers, and captivating effect lacquer dial. The dial boasts a mesmerizing color gradient, transitioning from a captivating night blue to a rich saturated black, enhancing the curvature and adding an extra touch of depth.

This watch makes no compromises when it comes to durability and functionality. The curved flank guard, a signature feature of the Meister S Chronoscope, protects the chronograph controls and adds a distinctive flair to its appearance. With a screw-down crown, water resistance of up to 200 meters, and a sapphire crystal with anti-reflection coating on both sides, this watch is built to withstand any challenge, yet is still sophisticated enough to serve as an attractive dress watch.

The two bracelet and strap variants of the Meister S Chronoscope prioritize practicality without sacrificing style. The stainless-steel bracelet, consisting of seven tough rows with a combination of matte and polished finishes has a reassuring solidity. The second strap variant stays true to the color scheme, featuring midnight-blue leather parts cushioned by rubber. The decorative seams harmoniously reflect the macchiato shade of the counter hands, enhancing the watch’s stylish and sporty aesthetics. The strap’s inner side displays the model’s name in capital letter, which adds a personal touch but also ensures continuous ventilation, guaranteeing exceptional comfort throughout extended wear.

The Meister S Chronoscope houses a self-winding movement, the J880.1 caliber (base caliber ETA 7750), which has a power reserve of up to 48 hours when not using the chronograph function. It also incorporates a date and weekday display, available in both German and English. The chronograph features a stop second, along with 30-minute and 12-hour counters. The meticulous finishing touches include a rhodium-plated movement, blued screws, a rotor with stripe finishing and the engraved Junghans logo, as well as diamond cuts on the barrel, wheel train, and balance bridge.

Crafted from robust stainless steel, the Meister S Chronoscope’s case measures an imposing 45.0 mm in diameter and 15.9 mm in height for a watch that is not for the faint of heart. Despite the size, the layout of the lugs creates a comfortable fit, even for an average wrist size. The seven-times screwed stainless-steel back showcases a captivating Junghans star artwork, while the screwed crown ensures optimal water resistance. The domed sapphire crystal, with anti-reflection coating on both sides, not only enhances the watch’s visual appeal but also guarantees exceptional durability.

The night blue dial, with its mesmerizing effect lacquer, is not the usual blue sport watch dial with its moody dark coloration and versatility. The indices, treated with an environmentally friendly luminous substance, provide excellent legibility even in low-light conditions. The partly skeletonized minute and hour hands, also equipped with environmentally friendly luminous substance, stand out boldly against the dial. The counterweight of the stop-second hand features white luminous substances, adding a touch of sophistication to the overall design.
