Two of the surprise teams of the 2022 NFL season get set to clash in preseason play, as the Detroit Lions (1-0) play host to the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0), with Jacksonville favored in the Jaguars vs Lions odds.
Jacksonville won the AFC South title. Detroit came up one game shy of qualifying for postseason play. Both teams are favored to win titles this season in the NFL Divisional odds.
In terms of this game, it’s the visiting Jaguars who are the darlings of the oddsmakers. Jacksonville is set as a 4-point road favorite, even though the Lions are 3-0 straight up against Jacksonville in preseason history.
Jaguars vs Lions Odds
Team | Moneyline | Spread | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Jacksonville Jaguars | -185 | -4 (-110) | Over 39.5 (-110) |
Detroit Lions | +154 | +4 (-110) | Under 39.5 (-110) |
Jacksonville is being given an implied win probability of 60.6%. There’s 64% of bets and 65% of handle backing Carolina at -3 points. The total is set at 39.5 points. Only one of three Jacksonville vs Detroit NFL preseason games have gone over that total.
Both teams are coming into this game off of Week 1 victories. Detroit won 21-16 at home over the New York Giants. Jacksonville stopped the Cowboys 28-23 at Dallas. The Lions and Jaguars held two days of joint practices earlier this week, so it will be curious to see if any bad blood carries over into this game.

How to Watch Jaguars vs Lions
Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm ET on Saturday, August 19 at Ford Field. The game is being broadcast live on the NFL Network.
This will be the first NFL Preseason meeting between these two teams since 2015. Detroit won that game 22-17 at Jacksonville. The Lions have enjoyed long-term success against the Jaguars. Along with a perfect 3-0 preseason slate, the NFL odds show that they are winners of four in a row in regular-season games. Detroit is 3-1 SU at home facing Jacksonville, including a 40-14 drubbing last season on Dec. 4.
Campbell Says All Detroit Regulars Will Sit
Detroit coach Dan Campbell is indicating that it will be a pared down Detroit lineup that will be facing the Jaguars. None of the Lions starters will be playing in Saturday’s preseason game. As well, Campbell was offering that it was possible a few select rookies will also be given the day off.
Dan Campbell says there’s a good chance Jameson Williams is out for the rest of preseason.

Lions WR Jameson Williams is likely done playing until Week 7 of the regular season thanks to a hamstring injury. He’s unlikely to be back in time to see any preseason action. Williams is under NFL suspension for the first six games of the season for violating the league’s gambling policy.
Lawrence Will Play for Jacksonville In Preseason Lineup
Jaguars’ coach Doug Pederson is playing it coy in terms of how much time he’ll be giving to his starters. They saw five series of action against Dallas, including QB1 Trevor Lawrence. He was 5-of-6 for 36 yards with a TD and a pick against Dallas.
Jaguars’ WR Zay Jones played 65% of snaps in the preseason opener. People are also still talking about the amazing TD pass that Canadian QB Nathan Rourke threw against the Cowboys. Rourke was 9-of-17 for 153 yards and a TD and might be worth a look in NFL props for this game.
Jaguars’ head coach Doug Pederson on Canadian QB Nathan Rourke’s viral TD pass: “To make that throw for the touchdown — I haven’t seen too many plays like that, even in a preseason game.”https://t.co/jdBeO6SJW6#Jacksonville #Jaguars #DUUUVAL #NFL pic.twitter.com/yWFGCOLKMe

Free agent DE Jadeveon Clowney visited with the Jaguars this week. However, he left town without agreeing to a contract.
WR Calvin Ridley, who missed all of last season under suspension for violating the league’s gambling policy, is playing for the Jaguars. He caught two passes for 21 yards last week. Ridley and Lions CB CJ Gardner-Johnson got into an altercation during the joint practices between the two teams.
Jaguars vs Lions Best Bets
The Jaguars passed over Lions DL Aidan Hutchinson to select Trayvon Walker first overall in last year’s NFL Draft. Expect a fired-up Hutchinson to be spending a lot of time in the Jacksonville backfield.
It was the bottom of the Detroit depth chart that was leading the rally for the Lions from a 13-3 deficit for the win over the Giants last week. They’ll be getting an abundance of playing time again this week, not to mention more than a field goal at home in the spread.
