World Championships in ruthless mood

India had to wait a long time to finally win the T20 World Cup for a second time.

They went into the 2024 edition in the USA and West Indies as the favorites. But they’ve gone into a lot of white-ball world cups as favorites in recent years and fell miserably short. And this is despite having a huge talent pool and all the backing they need for success.

With no shortage of help from the poor performances of the two previous winners, Australia and England, India finally got the job done, winning their first T20 World Cup since the inaugural competition in 2007.

And even then, they needed another choke from South Africa in the final.

Anyway, the monkey is now off their back, and India looks determined to build on their success.

India is +150 to win the T20 World Cup in 2026. Their closest rivals, Australia and South Africa, are both +450, and England is +550.

In the 50 Over World Cup slated to be played in 2027, India is +250 to win the competition. The defending champions, Australia, are the second favorite at +350.

The talent is there for India to dominate white-ball cricket. And this series against Bangladesh is offering India’s backup players the chance to showcase what they can do.

And even with what is basically a B-team playing, India has still made light work of their visitors, winning the first match by 7 wickets (with 49 balls remaining), and the second match by 86 runs.

They were two almighty beatings.

Bangladesh are playing for pride

Bangladesh are +500 for a consolidation win in the final match of their tour.

The truth is that the trip has been poor. They really should be doing better against an under-strength India team giving their backup players a run out.

The visitors were bowled out for just 127 in the first match and limped to 135/9 in the second.

Only Mehidy Hasan Miraz (35) in the first match, and Mahmudullah (41) in the second, have shown any resistance with the bat.

Both are middle-order batters, and the fact they top-scored for the visitors in both matches highlights the problems their top-order batters have had with the Indian bowling attack.

India vs. Bangladesh Picks and Predictions

Onto our cricket picks, and there is little betting value backing India to win at -500. They should win. But are they worth the risk at such short odds in the final match of a series?

Instead, we are looking at the top batter markets, where we like the look of Hardik Pandya for India and Mahmudullah for Bangladesh.

Hardik has made a contribution with the bat in both matches to date.

In the opening match, he top-scored with an unbeaten 39 off just 16 balls. In the second match, he made 32, taking his team past 200 runs.

Hardik is +900 to top score in the 3rd T20 and is our first betting pick.

At +700, we say Mahmudullah is a great value wager. The Bangladesh top order has failed miserably on this tour. Mahmudullah is an all-rounder who takes the game to the opposition.

The 38-year-old has also just announced he is to retire from T20 after this match. What chance does he go out with one of his typical swashbuckling innings against the world champions?
