With the way things have gone for Texas sports betting news, everyone is now going to have to wait until 2025 for legal activity to be allowed. As you all know by now, people were hoping for a miracle to be performed in time for 2023 to be the year where things get done, but that wasn’t the case. Now with the NFL regular season here, people are desperate to put money down on their top teams. To no surprise, illegal Cowboys sports bets are flying already in Texas.
The campaign opened last Sunday night for America’s Team, with the Cowboys traveling to East Rutherford to take on the New York Giants for a Sunday Night Football clash. This was supposed to be one of the best games in the week, with experts expecting it to be a close contest. It was everything but that, with the Cowboys recording a historic 40-0 win over their NFC East rivals.
Plenty of people in Dallas, and all over Texas for that matter, didn’t hesitate in getting illegal bets on the Cowboys to open the season. They cashed in big time, but that doesn’t mean that this kind of illegal activity should be celebrated in the Lone Star State. What’s frustrating for officials is that there are even some sportsbooks promoting online betting in Texas despite it being fully illegal.
Illegal sports rings are working overtime to get people’s bets in too – this has long been a problem all over Texas. This is the time of year where the highest amount of illegal activity is being recorded and authorities aren’t able to keep track of everything that’s going on. With the Cowboys playing so well to start the year, you can fully expect more and more illegal bets to be recorded over the next few months. This is bad news for officials and lawmakers as a whole.
The #Cowboys have pulled Dak Prescott — up 40-0 — and backup Cooper Rush is in to finish it. Dallas is going to begin the season 1-0.

Dallas has seen its Super Bowl odds skyrocket
Thanks to the way they were able to dominate in Week 1, Dallas has seen its Super Bowl odds skyrocket and fans are ready to see this team end the long drought of claiming the Lombardi Trophy. As we mentioned above, the Cowboys were brilliant during the opening weekend, posting an impressive 40-point victory over the Giants. The defense and special teams made a big splash here.
Micah Parsons is one of the best pass-rushers in the NFL, showing why vs. New York. In total, the Dallas defense posted a mind-boggling seven sacks of the Giants. For them to post a shutout against the Giants offense was wild to think about. Quarterback Daniel Jones signed a $160 million extension back in March, while the team also traded for former Pro Bowl tight end Darren Waller.
Micah Parsons on being double-teamed by opposing offenses: “You always love the double team. People talk trash, like, ‘Yeah, you not doing nothing.’ But I would say it’s the ultimate term of respect. If you feel like you got to do more for me than anybody else, you just respect… pic.twitter.com/VHkGDYFThb

It felt like it was written in the stars for the Giants to score a lot of points in Week 1, but the Cowboys defense had other ideas. This was a statement win by the Cowboys and fans indeed are dreaming of them not only winning the NFC East this year, but going on a deep postseason run. It won’t be easy, as the Eagles are hoping to go back-to-back in the division. Don’t forget that the Eagles won the NFC last year too and they have strong NFL betting odds to do so again in 2023.
With that said, Dallas’ confidence is riding high and their fans are betting big on them. However, any of those bets that are being placed inside of Texas are illegal ones. As the regular season continues to go on, there are going to be countless bets placed on the Cowboys. Once the postseason gets here too, people will consistently be checking the NFL betting odds to put money down on the Cowboys. While this is fun to think about, all this illegal activity is disheartening too and it must stop soon.
Texas must prioritize 2025 as the year sports betting gets launched
With the way things are looking, there’s no question that Texas must prioritize 2025 as the year sports betting gets launched. With the way the schedule is looking in terms of state legislators meeting, 2024 is already out of the question for Texas to get things done. So, there is now well over a year for everyone to get on the same page in terms of getting the right bill on the table for the local government to look at. At this point, there really are no excuses for the folks in Texas to unite to accomplish the goal.
The more we wait for the right bill to get drawn up, the more money Texas is losing as a whole. Jerry Jones, Mark Cuban and other pro team owners have been pushing for the legalization for a while now, but their efforts have fallen by the wayside. With the success of these organizations, it only makes sense for their fans to have kiosks to look at when they make their way to these different stadiums. Until 2025 gets here, the illegal bets will keep on climbing. It’s time for Texas to figure this mess out.
