It seems you’ve found yourself in a bit of a sticky situation – your sex toy is stuck in your anus or vagina? While it’s a scary situation, it happens more often than you think. Our clinical sexologist Rachel Sommer gives some tips on how to remove a stuck sex toy and when to seek help from your healthcare provider. Let’s find out what her suggestions are:
- Stuck in Vagina: When your sex toy is stuck in your vagina, the first thing is to not panic. Take a moment to relax and ease those tense pelvic muscles; it will make the process smoother. If you still can feel the toy, take a deep breath in, then exhale, and delicately try pulling it out with two fingers. If you can’t feel it, you can try a squatting position with additional lube. If that also fails, seek medical attention immediately.
- Stuck in Anus: When you’re in a sticky situation with a stuck butt toy, take a deep breath and try not to clench the sphincter muscles. Same as with the vagina above, if you can feel it, try to gently pull it out with two fingers. If you can’t, I advise no more DIY solutions but to seek medical attention immediately.
How To Remove A Stuck Sex Toy
Stuck in Vagina
What an experience! Your adult toy seems to have ventured into unfamiliar territory like your cervix perhaps, leaving you concerned and unsure about what to do next. It’s a situation that many individuals may face, so you’re not alone in this.
Now, it’s crucial to remain calm. Getting worried won’t help. Take a moment to relax and ease those tense muscles as it makes the extraction process much smoother. If you’re considering addressing this issue on your own or with the help of a partner, try a gentle retrieval. If the item is still visible or you can feel it, try delicately pulling it out using two fingers. Be patient and cautious.
If you can’t retrieve it using your fingers, you can try a squatting position (as demonstrated in the below illustration). Apply more lube and gently open the vaginal canal with you our your partner’s fingers. Now try to bear down like you’re giving birth or pooping. Should you experience any discomfort or pain, stop immediately and seek professional assistance.
Stuck in Anus
Even the best of us end up in unusual situations. To kick things off, take a deep breath, relax (both you and your muscles), and push worry aside. Getting all stressed out won’t help the situation.
You can attempt a DIY toy retrieval mission but this only works if you can still touch it. First, get yourself relaxed. A little lube might be just the kind of help you need to get that toy on the move. Slowly and gently, give it a push or reach it with your fingers.
This might not be the solution you want to hear, but if your toy remains stubbornly inside, go straight to the emergency room. The anus is different from the vagina, you can’t stretch your anus as much as a vagina without causing lacerations in your anal cavity.
When To Seek Professional Help?
Although you can try to remove it yourself or with your partner, you are actually putting yourself at a bigger risk. There are times when it’s best to seek professional help. Here are some situations where you should consider seeing a doctor:
- When you have a toy stuck deep inside of you and you can’t reach it. Trying to extract it yourself can cause further damage and complications. Worse? You can even push it further than it already is. If you experience severe pain or bleeding when trying to extract the sex toy. This could be a sign of injury or infection.
- This will differ from one person to another, but if you have a pre-existing medical condition that affects your pelvic area. Certain conditions, such as endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease, can make it difficult to extract an adult device safely.
- If the adult toy is made of porous materials, such as jelly or rubber. These materials can harbor bacteria and increase the risk of infection. Paying a visit to the doctor might seem a tad embarrassing, but your doctor is your best bet if you want to retrieve the toy playing hide-and-seek with your colon, cervix, or any other unexpected places inside. Your muscles will thank you, and you can get back to enjoying life’s less adventurous moments.

They will safely and expertly retrieve the item in no time. It’s vital to act promptly since leaving the item inside for an extended period could lead to potential health complications.
Prevention of Getting Stuck Sex Toy
So, after getting an adult toy stuck in your vagina or anus, you’re wondering how to avoid that awkward and painful situation from ever happening again. Well, fear not, my friend, because there are a few things you can do to prevent a stuck adult toy:
In The Vagina
Firstly, make sure you’re using an adult toy designed for vaginal use. This makes me sound like Captain Obvious, but seriously, you’d be surprised how many people try to use sex toys meant for anal play in their vaginas. Not only can this be uncomfortable, but it can also increase the risk of the toy getting stuck. So, stick to sex toys that are designed for vaginal use like the 3 G-spot vibrators in the image below to prevent them from getting lost.
Secondly, use a whole lot of lubrication. This not only makes the experience more enjoyable but also reduces the risk of the toy getting stuck. Dryness can cause friction, which can make it difficult to remove the toy. So, be sure to use a water-based lubricant to make things slippery and smooth. And remember, you can never use too much lube!
In The Butt
It’s important to choose the right anal sex toy for your body with a flared base as the butt plugs in the image below. Depending on your exposure to anal play, you can start small and work your way up to larger sex toys. Remember, your butt is not a bottomless pit, and there is only so much it can handle. Be sure to read the product descriptions carefully and choose toys that are specifically designed with ease of use in mind for anal play.
Secondly, always use plenty of lubrication. The anus does not produce its own natural lubrication as the vagina does, so it’s important to use a high-quality lubricant to reduce friction and discomfort. Don’t be afraid to reapply as needed during your play session.
Lastly, take your time and listen to your body. If something doesn’t feel right or safe, stop and reassess. Don’t force anything, and always be gentle. Remember, this is supposed to be a pleasurable experience, not a painful one. By following these simple tips, you can help prevent the dreaded “stuck sex toy” scenario and enjoy your anal play safely and comfortably.
