How to Choose a Red Light Device

How to Choose a Red Light Device

  • By Admin

It’s no secret; I’m a huge fan of red light therapy. In my personal experience, when used regularly, red light devices can provide noticeable changes in the skin. They do so painlessly, generating no heat and require no special skills to use. In fact, with most of these devices, you literally just lay there.

In the past few years, an influx of red light devices have flooded the skincare market. While you may be sold on the benefits of red light therapy by now, you’re likely still confused on which device is best for you. I’ve tried many of them and like them all, for various reasons.

I’ve broken them down by different needs and preferences to help you to choose the best red light device for your lifestyle.

What Red Light Does For Skin

  • Promotes collagen production, lessening the appearance of wrinkles
  • Speeds up wound healing
  • Can help with discoloration
  • Increase circulation
  • Reduce inflammation

You Travel Often

The CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Mask lays completely flat, making it easy to travel with. It has an auto 10 minute timer and holds a charge for a long time, so you’d like not even need to pack the charger for a trip that’s a week or less.

Smaller still, the Solawave Radiant Renewal Wand is the size of a toothbrush, with a carrying case and charging cable that are just as sleek and portable. If you’re a frequent flyer, the Solawave would be easy to use on the flight without scaring anyone.

You Need To Multi-Task

The red light device I use most while doing other things is the Solawave Radiant Renewal Wand. Because it emits a small field of light, there’s no light in your field of vision. It is meant to be continuously moving around the face, making it easy to do absent-mindedly while watching TV.

The vibration component of this is subtle, but I found it soothing for nasal congestion when I had a recent cold.

I have a dedicated review of the Solawave wand HERE.

Red Light is for Relaxation

I find that of all my devices, I use the Dr. Dennis Gross FaceWare mask the most. Because of it’s hard shell construction, it molds to my face. I remove the silicone straps and just rest it on my face for the 3 minute treatment time after a shower. It’s relaxing, quick and easy to use. I find the lack of straps encourages me to use it.

You want fuller lips

Full disclosure; you’re going to look like a baby with a light up pacifier using this. However, it’s worth it as this is an easy way to get 3 minutes of targeted red light treatment to the lips and surrounding area. Considering that red light promotes collagen production, the CurrentBody LED Lip Perfector makes perfect sense.

Red Light Therapy Bed

You want full body benefits

For those looking for the anti-inflammatory benefits of red light post workout or for conditions like arthritis, the Celluma Sport or Celluma Home may cure what ails you. These would be beneficial for anyone looking to speed up injury recovery.

I also recently got to try a full red light therapy bed on a visit to Inner Space. Check to see if your area offers something similar.

No matter which delivery method you choose, I don’t think you can go wrong with red light therapy. With all the injectables, lasers, peels and various other treatments out there, this has little risk and with regular use, lots of reward.
