Bonjour
Hi there Reader
In my house, we watch the Olympics. And while I am no sportsperson…I can’t help but feel excited about what’s happening over in Paris this summer.
When I was in school, I remember watching Kieran Perkins win the 1500m gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
Even though that race was over 20 years ago, you just can’t help but be inspired by stories like Perkins, right?
Relegated to the 8th lane as the slowest qualifier, lots of people thought he wouldn’t be able to defend his Barcelona gold medal.
But he dominated the race from the start, and won it in under 15 minutes!
Since his retirement, he’s dedicated his life to sport – being appointed President of Swimming Australia and CEO of the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Institute of Sport.
It’s a bit like parenthood, wouldn’t you say?
You dedicate your whole life to your kid(s). And while there are no Parenting Olympics, I just want you to know that you’re doing a good job! It’s inspiring to see parents and carers like you really looking out for your children, learning new things, and trying your best… day in and day out.
Truly. I am just as excited about the laps you put in as a parent and carer as I was watching Perkins all those years ago.
And you know what else?
I bet if there was a real Parenting Olympics with your kids as the judges?
You’d always take home the gold
Joyce xx
