Horse Racing Tips: Thunder Blue To Shine In Goodwood Novice Contest

Horse Racing Tips: Thunder Blue To Shine In Goodwood Novice Contest

On what is set to be a glorious day of sunshine on both sides of the Irish Sea, racing on Sunday in the UK and Ireland comes from Beverley, Goodwood, Navan, Perth and Punchestown.

One of our fancies is a Dominic Ffrench Davis novice that is looking to get off the mark at the second attempt when he lines up in a 6f contest at Goodwood.

Selections

  • Goodwood 14:10 – Thunder Blue @ 7/4
  • Navan 15:40 – Dower House @ 9/4
  • Perth 16:05 – Landofsmiles @ 11/4

Tip 1

THUNDER BLUE showed a lot of promise last month when he finished second of 12 runners over this distance on his debut at Haydock. He did not get a clear run in that race, otherwise the result could have been even better for the son of Blue Point.

Ffrench Davis’ colt will have learned a lot from that opening appearance at the racecourse when he was at the rear of the field in the early stages, which is why he ran into traffic. Expect to see Kevin Stott give him daylight much earlier this time.

The Haydock runner-up features on the Betfred Betfinder as one of the most Napped selections this afternoon.

If he steps up on what he produced on his opening appearance, it should be enough for him to break his maiden at the second attempt.

Tip 2

DOWER HOUSE is a filly from Aidan O’Brien’s yard that is bred to have a lot of success over this 1m distance and beyond.

She has failed to score in three attempts so far this season, but this latest assignment is a much easier one for the daughter of Galileo.

The Ballydoyle runner prevailed at Naas last season over 6f where she showed plenty of speed and then kept on strongly to come home less than two lengths behind the winner in the Group Three Weld Park Stakes at the Curragh.

O’Brien felt his runner was good enough to feature in the Irish 1,000 Guineas last time out, where she was outclassed in the race won by Tahiyra.

Ryan Moore is back on board this time which is a big positive. He had the choice of three Ballydoyle fillies in this contest, and he has opted for the Naas winner.

Tip 3

The Perth Gold Cup is the feature race on the card at Perth this afternoon and LANDOFSMILES goes into it in great form after winning at Uttoxeter (3m) on his seasonal reappearance just three weeks ago by a margin of victory of 10 lengths.

Peter Bowen’s chaser has a 100 per cent record at this course, with two victories over this C&D, including success in this race in 2021 off a 3lb lower mark than this. He could be set to add to his tally on his return to the Scottish racecourse.

The 10-year-old is a horse who enjoys the better ground over the summer so conditions will be perfect for him at Perth in this handicap chase, where he is the one they will all have to beat.
