Galway Racecourse Jumps

Jump racing holds sway across Britain and Ireland on Monday with four meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening. First off is Perth before they go to Newton Abbot, Brighton, Galway and Wolverhampton.

Our horse racing tips for Monday concentrate on the Irish meeting and include one for trainer Ciaran Murphy who was unlucky to bump into the progressive Chutzpal last time and can go one better this time.

Horse Racing Tips – Monday, September 9

  • 15:20 Galway – Portcammon @ 5/2
  • 17:05 Galway – Sydney Cruiser @ 11/2
  • 18:15 Galway – Boldog @ 4/1

Today’s Horse Races

15:20 Galway – Portcammon @ 5/2

A very competitive card at Ballybrit opens with a 2m½f maiden hurdle that can can go the way of the Willie Mullins-trained PORTCAMMON with Danny Mullins booked for the ride.

Impressive when winning his bumper at Roscommon last August, the gelding looked in need of the run when fourth behind The Passing Wife in a bumper at the Galway festival last time, which was his first start in 362 days.

The third that day, stablemate Luckinthecity, has won since to give the form a nice boost and there’s no doubt Portcammon should be a different proposition now on his hurdling debut with that run under his belt.

Barry Connell’s Apple’s Of Bresil is the obvious danger. He has some strong form including a remote third to Ballyburn at Leopardstown last Christmas before winning a Sligo bumper and running a good fourth over hurdles at Galway in August.

17:05 Galway – Sydney Cruiser @ 11/2

Moving on to division one of the 2m6½f handicap hurdle, SYDNEY CRUISER is seeking her first career win for trainer Ciaran Murphy, and recent showings point to her being good enough to win this competitive contest.

The mare was a big eyecatcher when staying on into third over 2m1f at Ballinrobe last month, and last time at Bellewstown over the same trip she ran a cracker again when second to the progressive Chutzpal.

Sydney Cruiser was beaten 12 lengths on the day, but she stayed on really well for pressure after getting outpaced a mile out which would suggest this trip should suit. She will relish the hill and has a live chance under 5lb claimer Alex Harvey.

This is an Extra Place Race, meaning that Betfred will be paying 5 Places instead of 4 (1/5 Odds.)

The Galway Handicap Hurdle (80-95), 2m 6 1/2f HCap Hurdle Winner Sydney Cruiser

18:15 Galway – Boldog @ 4/1

We should get plenty of clues for the upcoming jumps season in the 2m2f beginners’ chase but the horse to side with here could be Joseph O’Brien’s BOLDOG under JJ Slevin.

Sporting the famous Munir and Souede silks, the son of Authorized won a Hexham bumper when trained by Stuart Crawford before making a winning debut for this yard in a Tramore maiden hurdle on New Year’s Day of this year.

Boldog was very keen when last seen finishing fifth to Tullyhill in a Listed hurdle at Punchestown in February, but he has won fresh before and has the size and scope for chasing so it would be no surprise to see him ready to rock here.

The Galway City Beginners Steeplechase, 2m 2f Chase Winner Boldog

Odds correct at time of publishing.
