Flat Horse Racing

Flat racing holds sway across Britain and Ireland on Monday with four meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.

First off is Brighton before they go at Chepstow, Roscommon and Windsor.

Among our Monday fancies is one for trainer Thomas Coyle, who really enjoys the track at Roscommon and looks worth backing with a good 7lb claimer aboard.

Below you can find the Horse Racing Tips for Monday, September 2.

Horse Racing Tips – Monday, September 2

  • 16.45 – Roscommon – Manhattan Dandy @ SP
  • 17.15 – Roscommon – Mercurial @ SP
  • 19.15 – Roscommon – Latin @ SP

16.45 – Roscommon – Manhattan Dandy @ SP

A full field of 15 will go to post for the very competitive 7f handicap, and it will be interesting if first reserve Rock Dandy, who won this race last year, gets into the contest. If he does, he could be a tempting proposition from 2lb lower this time around.

However, it’s another son of Dandy Man who is of interest and that’s MANHATTAN DANDY, who also boasts winning form over course and distance having landed an apprentice handicap here last summer.

His record at this track reads 43126, so he always runs well here. Sixth here on his penultimate start on quick ground which doesn’t suit, he didn’t seem to stay when upped in trip at Gowran Park last time so the drop in distance will be a real help.

The weather is good at present and although the course is soft to heavy at the time of writing, he wouldn’t want it to dry out too much. If there’s any soft in the description, he’s a massive player.

17.15 – Roscommon – Mercurial @ SP

Another horse in need of a little bit of cut in the ground is John Nallen’s MERCURIAL, who holds strong claims in the following 7f handicap with Seamie Heffernan booked for the ride on this occasion.

The five-year-old impressed when making every post a winning one in a 21-runner handicap over 6f at the Curragh when last seen in April, and he does stay this trip pretty well so it won’t be a problem.

Off the track for 135 days, fitness will have to be taken on trust but he has run well fresh in the past and if he’s ready to roll, he will blaze a trail and could be tough to reel back in.

19.15 – Roscommon – Latin @ SP

Closing out the card is the 1m4f handicap and if Denis Hogan’s LATIN can bounce back from a poor effort at Leopardstown last time, he should go very close in the hands of Daniel King, who will be claiming 3lb.

The top weight wasn’t beaten far into fifth by the classy Deepone on debut at the same track last year and went very close when finding one too good in a 1m2f Fairyhouse claimer in July.

He travelled well for a long way in a much better race than this at the Galway festival but weakened coming up the hill over the extended mile. The step up in trip should be fine and he’s now 5lb lower here.
