We are back over the jumps for a summer National Hunt fixture from Hexham on Saturday afternoon.
It’s a competitive seven-race card which includes a good Class 4 handicap hurdle at 16:20.
Hexham Betting Tips
Date: Saturday 17th June
Time: First race at 13:50
Location: Hexham, Northumberland
15:10 – Glinger Flame @ 10/3
Glinger Flame cut a seriously well-handicapped horse, before bolting up over course and distance last time out and a six pound rise is unlikely to stop the 11-year-old from striking again.
Nicky Richards’ charge travelled beautifully, before drawing clear at this track last month, and although the gelding may be in the latter stages of his career, the grey doesn’t appear to be done with winning.
Glinger Flame has scored five times in 14 hurdle runs and Richards’ runner is relatively lightly raced for a horse of his age. The 11-year-old has been rated 135 in the past and today’s mark of 126 is unlikely to stop the likable grey scoring again.
The rapidly-improving Mullinaree looks a big player, but Milton Harris’ charge is making the market for Glinger Flame and he can score in the two-mile-four-furling handicap at 15:10.
15:45 – Kicksaftersix @ 9/2
Kicksaftersix took a major step forward when finishing second behind an improving and in-form rival at Cartmel last time out and the seven-year-old could go one better in the two mile handicap chase at 15:45.
Martin Todhunter’s gelding has been racing too freely to produce his best, and although the seven-year-old was still keen at Cartmell last time, he settled better and there should be a good pace to aim at today.
Kicksaftersix showed ability in bumpers, he failed to cut any ice over hurdles, but better ground and fences appear to have brought about some improvement and it would be no surprise if the seven-year-old outran his odds this afternoon.
16:20 – Velasco @ 11/2
Velasco has dropped from a peak mark of 117 to 92 and a two-pound ease in the weights for a fourth-place finish at this track last time out looks rather generous.
Susan Corbett’s charge had previously been a good second at the Northumberland venue, where the seven-year-old was beaten only half-a-length in a competitive contest.
Velasco looked to have most of his rivals in trouble when kicking for home last time out, but a couple of late mistakes saw Corbett’s runner lose two places close home.
This smaller field may allow Velasco to boss things from the front, the trip and ground are fine and the seven-year-old looks a cracking bet.
