Even more exciting is that some early details have been revealed about the show, including its cast, plotline, and even a first look at everyone’s favorite killer.

Dexter prequel show cast and characters

Shadow and Bone alum Patrick Gibson will play Dexter in the prequel series, set 15 years before the events of the original show. Other cast members include  Christian Slater, who will play his adoptive father, Molly Brown, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, and Reno Wilson.

The plot of the show is that Dexter, then a teenager, is just beginning his journey as a vigilante serial killer, as well as an internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. Fans will get to see firsthand how Dexter the killer was made, as well as the backstory of characters from the original Dexter.

A logline for the show explains that “With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar.”

When does the dexter prequel release?

Dexter: Original Sin doesn’t yet have a premiere date, though it has already gone into production. It is being produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios.

Showrunner Clyde Phillip is returning for the sequel, which will air on Showtime and Paramount+. Phillip left the original show after Season 4, but his involvement has some fans hoping that the magic of the first few Dexter seasons will be coming back. Many of the show’s later seasons were criticized, including by Philips himself.

He told Entertainment Weekly in 2021, “The show was untethered, and the character was untethered. I wasn’t in the room, so I can’t really criticize anybody for that. I mean, there were videos of people watching the final episode and yelling at their television.”

Several promotional pictures have also been released, giving fans a first look at a young Dexter Morgan and his family. These include him with his father and hovering over a man bound to a table, which is an instant callback to the original Dexter show.
