Hellvape Dead Rabbit Solo RTA Review – Another Breeding Success?

Hellvape Dead Rabbit Solo RTA Review – Another Breeding Success?

  • By Admin

Up for review today is the Hellvape Dead Rabbit Solo RTA – a 24mm single-coil Rebuildable Tank Atomiser (RTA).

Many people – myself included – appreciate the fine quality Hellvape brings with their products. Why they are so prolific with this series? And is this a case of evolution and experimentation, as we are led to believe, or are they just trying to flog us another Dead Bunny?

Let’s find out…

Hellvape have been around the vape scene since 2016, their main offices and production plants are based in China. They need no other introduction basically because of the popularity and quality of their products!

Since 2017 they have been most famously known for their Dead Rabbit series of RDA and RTAs, as well as numerous stock coil tanks.

Hellvape has also released a few regulated mods like the Arez 120 and the Hell200 Kit.

What to Expect From the Hellvape Dead Rabbit Solo RTA?

The Solo RTA has been released in 6 colours – SS, Gunmetal, Gold, Rainbow, Blue and Matte Black.

And has been produced in 2 versions:

  • 2ml for the TPD market
  • 4ml standard version that comes with a spare bubble glass

At first glance the Hellvape Dead Rabbit Solo RTA doesn’t seem to be anything special, in fact to me it seems a bit plain!

However, inside this RTA is a bit of magic going on with a new dual top interlayer honeycombed airflow, that is guaranteed to be leak-proof. Trust me on this, this RTA can produce some intense flavour!

The RTA has a base diameter of 24mm so will fit most popular devices!

It has a single coil deck with generous coil space that will support both clockwise and anti-clockwise DIY coils!

My sample of the Dead Rabbit Solo RTA is the standard 4ml version and was sent directly to us for review from Hellvape!

As always my thoughts and views are my own – after a considerable testing period.

Hellvape Dead Rabbit Solo RTA – Design and Build Quality

As seen by my photos, I was sent 2 samples of the standard kit in Matte Back and Gunmetal.

The kit comes presented well in a card box, with extras including a flat-head screwdriver, post screws and a few O-rings.

However, neither of these sample kits contained any pre-made DIY coils – so I’m unsure if the retail version will or not!

The construction materials the RTA Solo is made of include 304 Stainless Steel, Pyrex glass and Delrin.

This RTA is constructed of 6 parts, however, the RTA can be further dismantled by removing the sliding fill cover and the silicone fill port gasket is replaceable.

As always Hellvape’s standard of quality and design along with manufacture is outstanding!

Starting At The Top

The RTA has a low-profile 810 Delrin mouthpiece.

The Stainless Steel top cap is removed by unscrewing it. The cap has a thick O-ring to stabilise the mouthpiece and the chimney shaft under the drip tip has “Hellvape” as printed advertising.

When in place, the cap covers a slide-fill port!

To open the fill port, push the cap in the direction of the printed arrow.

The airflow adjustment ring is removable for easy cleaning.

Middle Section

This section is all one piece, and is printed on the coil cover outside with the D.R. logo and “Dead Rabbit Solo”.

This section houses a single kidney-shaped fill port along with the dual top external airflow that consists of 2 slots that angle inwards.

The centre hole you can see is the chimney outlet!

Looking into the coil cover you will see the honeycomb airflow plates that consist of 2 sets of 14 holes!

Build Deck

When the build deck is unscrewed and removed, you can remove the Pyrex glass tank easily.

This is a simple postless style deck, that has plenty of room to hold a single coil of up to 4mm in diameter!

The deck has 4 screws to capture your wire tails. The positive wire slots sit inside a peek insulator and seated between the wire slots is the internal airflow which comprises of 3 slots.

And to each side of the deck is tucking space for your cotton tails!

The deck has a thread ring around it, which allows a smooth connection to the main part of the tank and it has an O-ring that will sit flush with the Pyrex glass.

510 Base Connection

Looking at the outside of the deck base is a cut-out pattern to help with the removal and replacement!

On the bottom of the base, Hellvape have printed all their normal safety information.

The base has a Gold-plated pin and a 510 connection post which has well-turned threading!

Hellvape Dead Rabbit Solo RTA Quick Start Guide

As no coils came with my kits, I will be using a pre-made Centipede coil!

The liquid I will be using today is called “El-Morado” from a company called Over the Border.

I will be using my favourite Cotton Bacon V2, to wick this tank. I’ve also swapped the straight glass for the bubble tank!

And to satisfy my weird sense of humour, I will be using the Dead Rabbit Solo RTA on my Smok Mag Solo, (Solo on a Solo) lol.

Installing The Coil

Make your coil or use a pre-made one, such as those available here. My Centipede coil came to me from Pilot Vape, as part of a combination pack of 16 coils!

  • Trim, install then heat and scrape your coil to get rid of any hot spots
  • Add and trim your cotton, and tuck the ends loosely into the build deck
  • Make sure to tuck the cotton behind the threaded ring,

I tend to change my cotton once a day – more often if I use a different liquid!

Tip: Don’t overstuff the cotton into the wick spaces or it might cause a liquid lock and burn your cotton!

  • Dampen your coil and cotton with e-liquid this is known as Priming
  • Re-assemble the build deck back into the main tank, at this point, I like to close the airflow
  • Open the sliding fill port and fill the tank with e-liquid
  • Screw the tank onto a suitable device, open the airflow and enjoy a great-tasting vape!

How Does the Hellvape Dead Rabbit Solo RTA Perform?

I’ve said in the past I love using RDAs and RTAs, so I won’t bore you with why lol.

However, to say I am impressed with the new Hellvape Solo RTA is very much an understatement! It is very much in my wheelhouse, as it’s simple to build on, fills quickly, and is easily dismantled for cleaning!

The coil I am using today has an inner diameter of 2.5mm. I cut the tails to 4.5mm using my Coilytool. By the way, the resistance for this coil worked out to be 0.14Ω.

Performance

I bedded the coil in, with the airflow opened to less than halfway and my mod set at 45W for a few draws.

Closing the airflow to about ¼ and dropping the wattage to 35W, I was able to enjoy a good approximation of both MTL and RDL vaping styles, both of which produced a hell of a good flavour!

Upping the wattage to 60W and fully opening the airflow for a mid-level DTL flavourful and cloudy vape.

I again upped the wattage this time to 80, 90 and 100W in 5W increments. While at these values the result was a great flavour and the clouds were excellent! I must admit though the heat was a little more than my micro lungs could take lol.

Airflow

The standard dual external airflow of course works in conjunction with the internal airflow. The latter consists of 2 plates that have 14 honeycomb holes each.

While not a completely silent RTA, I must say the draw from this is one of the smoothest Dead Rabbit products so far!

It handles chain vaping very well. It does become a little warm after a while, but being made mainly of Stainless Steel the tank does cool fairly quickly.

I have had no leaking from this RTA at all!

Pros

  • Very good quality and design
  • Great flavour
  • Smooth Airflow
  • Excellent vapour production
  • No leaks

Cons

I have no concerns with this great little RTA!

Final Review Verdict

This is somewhat of a plain little tank, but it does fit right in with the Hellvape range of Dead Bunnies.

An easy maintenance RTA, that in my opinion will be a great learning RTA for those who wish to experience the building side of vaping, as well as those with more experience!

I have been using this for 2 weeks. I can honestly say I haven’t found anything I dislike about it! The flavour and vapour production I have been receiving have been almost outstanding!
