Michael Penix Jr. Heisman Odds

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw four touchdown passes to lead the Huskies to a 42-33 victory over Stanford in Week 9. While the Huskies remain undefeated, they were stuck in a tight game with the Cardinal entering the fourth quarter.

During a key moment in which the Huskies were facing a third-and-8 while leading by only two points, Penix converted with a 15-yard pass to Germie Bernard and then found Devin Culp wide open for a 24-yard score to make it 35-26.

Following MPJ’s performance in which he delivered in the clutch, FanDuel shorted the Washington QB’s Heisman odds from +288 to +260, officially making him the Heisman favorite once again. The senior had lost his spot atop the odds following a miserable showing vs Arizona State.

While Penix’s implied chance of winning the Heisman is still only 27.55%, he’ll have the chance to bolster his odds in the upcoming weeks as his team faces USC and Utah next. We like the chances of Penix balling out, as USC’s defense is struggling while Utah just got beat by an Oregon team that the Huskies have defeated.

JJ McCarthy Heisman Odds

Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy is no longer the favorite in the Heisman odds despite not even taking the field in Week 9. The junior pivot was officially on a bye week, but his odds lengthened from +233 to +300 during that time, likely due to his main competitor balling out.

All the talk around Michigan right now is the sign-stealing scandal, so you also have to consider the potential Heisman implications there. Oddsmakers clearly aren’t too worried about McCarthy potentially being banned from a Big Ten Title game or something different, as they’re still listing JJ with a 26.7% win probability for the award.

While Michael Penix Jr. can potentially lock up the Heisman against USC and Utah, McCarthy’s potential Heisman moment is coming against Ohio State in “The Game”. This rivalry game could have major CFB MVP implications, as popular Heisman longshot Marvin Harrison Jr. will be suiting up for the other side.

There’s clearly better value on Harrison Jr. right now at his current price than McCarthy. While only four wide receivers have ever won the Heisman, Harrison Jr is one of a kind. Not to mention, McCarthy must compete with an excellent QB in MPJ, who has him beaten right now in almost every major statistical category.

Other Week 9 Heisman Odds

The other name you should be monitoring right now in the Heisman odds is Jayden Daniels of LSU. While Daniels and the Tigers had a bye week, he has his chance for a “Heisman moment” in Week 10 against Alabama. FanDuel lengthened Daniels odds from +343 to +450 while he was idle.

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix is currently on the outside looking in when it comes to the Heisman race, although he saw big improvement following Week 9. Nix accounted for three touchdowns in a convincing win over Utah, causing FanDuel to shorten Nix’s Heisman odds from +1460 to +600.
