Heat sharpshooter Tyler Herro expected to miss time with ankle injury

Heat sharpshooter Tyler Herro expected to miss time with ankle injury

  • By Admin

The Miami Heat’s recent surge took a significant hit after guard Tyler Herro suffered an ankle injury.

The Heat announced that Herro has a Grade 2 ankle sprain that will force him to miss the next two weeks before he’s evaluated. The ailment occurred in Wednesday’s win over the Memphis Grizzlies after he rolled his right ankle in the first quarter.

“Right when it happened I felt it,” Herro said after Wednesday’s game via ESPN. “And I kind of knew mentally, I heard some crunches and cracks in my ankle. And I’m like, ‘Yeah, that will be it.’”

Herro was off to a strong start this season, averaging 22.9 points, 44.7% shooting from the floor, and 41.0% from beyond the arc. He had scored 20 or more points in six of the team’s first eight games.

The 23-year-old’s strong play is coming after a summer of dealing with trade rumors involving Damian Lillard. The Heat failed to land Lillard, leaving the franchise to stand behind the former Sixth Man of the Year as a key piece moving forward.

Nonetheless, his absence leaves a significant offensive void in the starting lineup that the Heat have leaned on through their rough start. Miami will look to Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo to pick up the slack even more to keep the team trending forward.

Adebayo is putting forth a strong start, averaging a team-best 23.1 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks while shooting 53.2% from the field and 50% from 3-point range.
